Giuliani Says Republican Vote Against Aid To 9/11 Workers Wrong And Inconsiderate
“I think this is a very big mistake,” said Giuliani, a Republican whose leadership of the city during and after the attacks earned him the moniker “America’s Mayor.”
“Any time you treat Sept. 11 as a political issue, which is what they are doing . . . I think is just wrong. That’s the wrong thing to do.”
Senate Republicans stopped the James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act — named after an NYPD cop who died of respiratory disease attributed to exposure at Ground Zero — from advancing by voting en masse on Thursday to filibuster the legislation.
The bill would extend some $7.4 billion in aid and compensation to rescue workers who got sick after working at Ground Zero.
The Senate Republicans were making good on their vow to oppose all bills until the Democrats agree to the deal extending tax breaks for all, including the wealthy.
John Feal, a construction worker who lost half of his foot working at Ground Zero, said, “It’s the Republican Party that has held the bill hostage . . . to help millionaires instead of heroes.”Click here for reuse options!
