Henry Kissinger’s Lame Apology Not Satisfactory

40336701_nixon_and_kissinger300

In recently-released tapes, Richard Nixon is heard disparaging blacks and Jews, and Secretary of State Henry Kissinger is heard sucking up to his boss, saying that sending Jews to a Soviet gas chamber “is not an American concern.”

The 37-year-old comment by the former secretary of state followed immediately after a conversation Kissinger and President Richard Nixon had with Israeli Prime Minister Golda Meir.

In the meeting, Meir asked the U.S. to pressure the Soviet Union to release its Jews. Nixon and Kissinger declined.

“The emigration of Jews from the Soviet Union is not an objective of American …

Refighting The Civil War

SuperStock_900-4749

by Stuart Shapiro

The Civil War is the defining moment in American history.  As such, it gets more attention than any other event in our first two centuries.  That attention is only going to increase with the 150th anniversary of the war’s beginning, coming in 2011.  Part of this will take the form of those arguing that the war was about state’s rights and not slavery.  Squarestate accurately discusses the harm of this myth:

Just as our personal mistakes should not be forgotten, lest we repeat them, letting the fact main fact of the Civil War be forgotten puts us …

Ashton Kutcher Preparing For The End Of The World

s-ASHTON-large

In an interview in Men’s Fitness, Ashton Kutcher explains how he’s getting ready for Armageddon. (h/t JustJared)

“It won’t take very much, I’m telling you. It will not take much for people to hit the panic button. The amount of convenience that people rely on based on electricity alone. You start taking out electricity and satellites, and people are going to lose their noodle. People don’t have maps anymore. People use their iPhones or GPS systems, so if there’s no electricity, nobody has maps.”

One has to wonder if Kutcher would make a good cable news host:

“And …

Woman Calls 911 To Complain About Bad Manicure

0-nails-175x175

Cynthia Colson got herself some jail time rather than nail tips when she called 911 four times to complain about a bad manicure. Colson said she wanted to “press charges” because the salon didn’t treat her well.

According to the news report, Colson’s initial complaint stemmed from the fact that she felt she had been charged too much for nails that were too short. She also alleged the nail technician threatened to cut her lips with the nail clippers. As for the four calls, Colson followed up on her first call to ask when an officer would arrive and then …

Number Of Health Care Uninsured Rises To Over 50 Million

By Yashwanth Manjunath

A troubling new report from the Kaiser Family Foundation reveals that the number of Americans without health insurance is now over 50 million. The report also found that the number of Americans without any health care coverage grew by more than four million in 2009, leaving almost one-fifth of non-elderly people uninsured. Among those between 19 and 29 years old, nearly one-third lack coverage. This recent epidemic of lost health care coverage is directly related to the employer-based health care system that still exists here in the United States. As individuals and families continue to lose their …

Time For Republicans To Embrace Muslims: They’re A New Market Segment

american-muslim-hijabi-face-paint-american-flag-stars-and-stripes-300x288

Maybe it will take the capitalist opportunities available because of the new commercial viability of Muslims to get Republicans to accept them as part of our culture. A conference in New Brunswick, NJ featured food company executives and market researchers talking about this niche market.

American Muslims seeking more acknowledgment in the marketplace argue that businesses have more to gain than lose by reaching out to the community.

“We are not saying, `Support us,’” said Faisal Masood, a graduate of the University of Illinois, Chicago, and management consultant. “But we want them to understand what our values are.”

There are …

Right Wing Says Obama Wants To Give Manhattan Back To Native Americans

barack-obama-michelle-headdress-cropped-proto-custom_2

I say no way, since it was a great deal at $24, and giving it back would really be a bad move financially given how much the white man has put into it. Why, Donald Trump alone has made it worth far more than the few shekels originally tendered. However, now that President Obama has announced he will support the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous People, conservatives are worried that Manhattan sits in the balance.

“The aspirations it affirms — including the respect for the institutions and rich cultures of Native peoples — are ones we must …

CPAC Too Pro-Gay For Many Conservative Groups

pennynancecwa

The Family Research Council and Concerned Women for America are refusing to attend February’s CPAC conference because the group GOProud has been invited.

“We’ve been very involved in CPAC for over a decade and have managed a couple of popular sessions. However, we will no longer be involved with CPAC because of the organization’s financial mismanagement and movement away from conservative principles,” said Tom McClusky, senior vice president for FRC Action.

“CWA has decided not to participate in part because of GOProud,” CWA President Penny Nance (pictured) told WND.

FRC and CWA join the American Principles Project, American Values, Capital …

If You Didn’t Vote For John McCain, Don’t Expect His Help (UPDATED)

images2

by Stuart Shapiro

For the better part of his career in the Senate, John McCain prided himself on being a conservative, but also on taking positions on principle (campaign finance reform being the classic example).  He supported immigration reform in 2007 when the rest of his party (and the rest of its presidential candidates) was racing to see who could be the most anti-immigrant.  Therefore his opposition to the DREAM Act was a surprise.  McCain’s friend, former Arizona Attorney General Grant Woods, has the explanation:

Woods said “it hurts” McCain to vote against legislation like the Dream Act after …

Pat Buchanan: American Education Suffers Because Of Racial Gap In Cognitive Ability

pat-buchanan-fists

Pat Buchanan believes we’d be much better educationally if we could get the unmotivated less brainy students out of the classrooms so our stats improve. That seems to mean, according to him, that it’s the whites and Asians who do us the most good.

…East Asians – Chinese, Koreans, Japanese – are turning in the top scores in all…categories, followed by the Europeans, Canadians, Australians and New Zealanders.

But, looking down the New York Times list of the top 30 nations, one finds not a single Latin American nation, not a single African nation, not a single Muslim nation, …
