Loughner’s School Releases Video Of Him Calling The College “Genocide School”

media-EA7B13AF

Pima Community College has released a video that resulted in Jared Lee Loughner’s suspension from the school.

Rambling and agitated, Tucson shooting suspect Jared Lee Loughner strode through Pima Community College, camera in hand — alternately laughing and voicing anger at his “genocide school,” which he called “one of the biggest scams in America” in a video released by college officials late Friday.

The nearly four-minute video, which was posted on YouTube on Sept. 23 and later removed, appeared to show Loughner on campus at night, moving briskly through buildings and a series of open courtyards.

“All right, so here’s …

The Washington Times Adds To The Right’s Self-Inflicted “Jewish Problem”

a pogrom. really?

by Sandi Behrns

Perhaps the kindest way to describe Sarah Palin’s use of the term “blood libel” in her statement on Wednesday would be as an unfortunate faux pas caused by ignorance of its historical context. Worse, we might say it showed a flippant disregard for both that history and the significance of the the attack on Jewish Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords.

Mrs. Palin has taken an awful lot of criticism for her “faux pas,” and it could only be expected that a conservative media outlet such as The Washington Times would come to her defense. What wasn’t expected was …

Down Goes Michael Steele

Michael Steele

By Yashwanth Manjunath

Michael Steele has been defeated in his quest for a second term as Chairman of the Republican National Committee. It’s tough to know whether to cheer or groan at this news. Steele certainly was a clownish buffoon (and I say that lovingly) prone to numerous gaffes. Among these include calling the stimulus package “bling bling,” suggesting the GOP needs a “hip-hop makeover,” and sending some “slum love” to Louisiana Governor and Indian-American Bobby Jindal. As someone who follows politics closely, the idea that Steele will have a greatly reduced role in our nation’s political discourse is a …

Tea Partier Shouts “Jew” And Spits At Congressman Bob Filner

odonnell_filner-300x183

Supports of tea party candidate Nick Popaditch didn’t take their defeat in November’s election very well. This didn’t get attention until Lawrence O’Donnell brought it up, highlighting it as a precursor to the Arizona tragedy:

“Bob Filner saw this tragedy coming. During his 2010 re-election bid, Bob Filner of California faced the vitriolic political rhetoric many have blamed for Jared Loughner’s actions on Saturday. Here was the scene as he tried to exit golden hall, San Diego’s election headquarters just after he defeated the tea party republican. Popovich ranted to his supporters.”

Limbaugh Vs Krauthammer: Low Road Vs High

Picture-87-300x213

Rush Limbaugh’s reaction to the Arizona tragedy has been nothing short of embarrassing, and not worthy of the talk radio host with the largest audience in that medium. Limbaugh railed against the FOX News “All Stars” – Chris Wallace, Brit Hume and Charles Krauthammer — for “slobbering” over President Obama’s Arizona speech, going so far as to derisively call it a “pep rally.” Either Limbaugh really believes the drivel he’s been emitting since this tragedy or he is doing it just for ratings and attention, which would be worse.

Now, Charles Krauthammer has responded (h/t Mediaite).

As one of …

The Costs Of Guns

Source: The Atlantic

by Stuart Shapiro

The second most debated topic (after the tone of political rhetoric) after the Arizona shooting has been gun control.  Richard Florida has an article at The Atlantic with data on gun deaths.  There’s lots of interesting stuff there but what most struck me was:

Firearm deaths are significantly lower in states with stricter gun control legislation. Though the sample sizes are small, we find substantial negative correlations between firearm deaths and states that ban assault weapons (-.45), require trigger locks (-.42), and mandate safe storage requirements for guns (-.48).

Now unlike some folks, I do not believe …

Giffords Progress “Major Leap Forward”

GIFFORDS-articleInline

Rep. Gabrielle Giffords is able to keep her eyes open for up to 15 minutes and move her legs and hands, progress that doctors are calling a “major leap forward,” although they are not ready upgrade her from critical condition.

In response to a reporter’s question about whether Ms. Giffords’s recovery might be considered miraculous, Dr. G. Michael Lemole Jr., the hospital’s chief of neurosurgery said, “Miracles happen every day, and in medicine, we like to attribute them to what we do or what others do around us. A lot of medicine is outside our control. We are wise to …

Tucson Tea Party Co-Founder Blames Giffords For Getting Shot; Says Tea Party Is Also Shooting Victim

guardian_humphries_110113b

Trent Humphries, co-founder of the Tucson Tea Party, says if Gabrielle had security concerns she should have protected herself and not appeared without better security at an open event. (via Raw Story)

The Arizona congresswoman shouldn’t have attended an event “in full view of the public” if she had security concerns, according to Tucson Tea Party co-founder Trent Humphries.

Humphries told The Guardian, “We’re victims, too,” worried that the fall-out from the shootings will end the Tea Party movement.

If The Shooter Had Been Muslim, Peter King Is Already Blaming The Left For What They’d Say

Picture-93

The congressman who wants to spend his time investigating Muslims was asked by radio host Laura Ingraham what he thinks the reaction would have been had the Arizona shooter been Muslim. Never one to miss an opportunity to bash the left, or Muslims, King responds predictably, claiming the left would turn it into “a total defense of Islam.” (via Mediaite)

The first statement [from the left after past instances of Islamic terror] was we have no right to judge an entire community by one person. This is a deranged gunman who in no way reflects what Islam stands for, …
