Conservative Group Kicks Ron Paul Off Advisory Committee For Opposing War; Says Paul “Borders On Treason”

Young Americans for Freedom has fallen out of love with Ron Paul for being critical of the war in Afghanistan.
On Saturday, Young Americans for Freedom (YAF) announced that Rep. Ron Paul (R-TX), one of the handful of congressional Republicans who voted against going to war in Iraq and a major opponent of the war in Afghanistan, would be kicked off its National Advisory Board over his dovish views.
YAF condemned Paul’s “delusional and disturbing alliance with the fringe Anti-War movement” and said that he was even more “out of touch with America’s needs for national security than the current …

Ten states have legislation pending that would require presidential candidates to prove they are natural born citizens. (h/t Political Wire)
“We don’t think the president was vetted, and it’s just that simple,” Texas GOP state Rep. Leo Berman said, adding that he doesn’t know whether Obama is “a citizen or not” but that he believes the question has not been fully examined.
“I read different things that say he was born in Hawaii, and then I read the governor can’t find anything that says he was born in Hawaii,” Berman added. “Why the president won’t show a birth certificate …

Inspired by Egypt, Iranians have taken to the streets and are facing police with batons and tear gas.
Dodging clouds of tear gas fired by police and pro-government militias, crowds of people marched down a central boulevard and shouted slogans such as “Death to the dictator,” “We are all together” and “Down with Taliban, in Cairo and Tehran.”
It was not immediately clear how many people were joining the protests. But thousands could be seen marching from Enghelab (Revolution) Square toward Azadi (Freedom) Square, overwhelming police efforts to stop them.
The White House asked the Iranian government in advance to …

President Obama’s $3.7 trillion budget reduces deficits by $1.1 trillion over a decade, but Republicans say it’s not enough.
About two-thirds of the deficit reduction comes from spending cuts in areas ranging from heating subsidies for the poor to grants for airports and water-treatment plants. The rest is from revenue increases, including letting taxes rise for married couples with more than $250,000 in annual income, according to the documents…
Scores of programs would be slashed under the administration’s budget to make room for increases elsewhere while still staying within Obama’s promise to freeze non-defense discretionary spending for the next …

Donald Trump told CPAC, “Ron Paul, cannot get elected. I’m sorry.” Trump was referring, of course, to the Republican nomination for president. The Donald has never run for anything, prompting Ron Paul to wonder how many elections the real estate magnate has won.
Regarding Trump’s prediction that Paul is not a viable candidate, Paul argued that he’s won eleven times in a very conservative district and responds to Trump with his own verbal smackdown, “I don’t know whether he’s earned the right – you know – for criticizing someone for not winning an election, when I don’t know how …

Welcome to the new civility. At the Conservative Political Action Conference, Andrew Breitbart says he decided to make his career “trying to destroy the institutional left” because “it would be a fun thing to do.” Code Pink, he opines, were “kinda slutty lefties” but are now “long in the tooth.” About liberals who protest, “They’re not Americans; they’re animals.”

Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords is regaining the ability to speak, sometimes by lip-syncing to songs like, “I Can’t Give You Anything But Love.” Pictured is her mom talking to her on the plane as she is being transported from Tucson to Houston.…

Greg Sargent highlights one of the fundamental paradoxes in American politics. While the American public is concerned about budget deficits and government spending, there are few or no government programs they actually want to see cut.
More favor an increase in spending than a decrease on 15 of 18 issues tested in the poll. Now, these numbers aren’t all that clear-cut. There seems to be substantial support for holding spending steady, and in many categories, the combined total of those who want to freeze spending or decrease spending is higher than the total who want to increase …

The Department of State is now sending out Twitter messages in Farsi in an attempt to reach social media users in Iran.
On the Twitter account, USA darFarsi, the department tells Iranians, “We want to join in your conversation.”
The second and third tweets are more pointed. The State Department accuses Iran’s government of illegalizing dissent while praising Egyptian protesters for the same activities.
The U.S. then calls on Iran “to allow people to enjoy same universal rights to peacefully assemble, demonstrate as in Cairo.”…

The Middle East domino effect continues, as Palestinian Prime Minister Salam Fayyad (pictured) will offer the resignation of his cabinet to President Mahmoud Abbas Monday.
The PLO, which groups the main Palestinian nationalist movements but not Hamas, has since 2004 been led by Abbas, whose mandate as president expired in January 2009 but was extended until new polls to avoid a political vacuum.
“The executive committee has decided to start preparations for presidential and parliamentary elections in the coming months… no later than September,” the PLO’s Yasser Abed Rabbo told journalists on Saturday.
Hamas immediately rejected the latest elections plan. …
