The Truth About The Muslim Brotherhood

39473_full

By Yashwanth Manjunath

As the Egyptian Revolution continues to unfold, the right-wing media and parts of the mainstream media have been appallingly supportive of the Mubarak regime out of fear of the Muslim Brotherhood taking over Egypt. The misinformation in the media about the Muslim Brotherhood has been so disgusting that I feel compelled to set the record straight.

Myth: The Muslim Brotherhood started the protest movement in Egypt.

The Truth: The Muslim Brotherhood did not start, nor are they leading the current Egyptian protests. The protests started as a Facebook event created by the democratic, secular, youth movement in …

Chamber Engages In Dirty Tricks

images1

by Stuart Shapiro

In a move worthy of Richard Nixon himself, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce last year hired a lobbying firm to discredit opposing interest groups.  Think Progress, one of those groups, got hold of a memo produced by “Team Themis” the name the dirty tricksters gave themselves (CREEP anyone?).

According to one document prepared by Team Themis, the campaign included an entrapment project. The proposal called for first creating a “false document, perhaps highlighting periodical financial information,” to give to a progressive group opposing the Chamber, and then to subsequently expose the document as a fake to undermine …

Mubarak Gone; Egypt VP Announces Change; Washington Reacts (UPDATED)

Egyptian-anti-government-006

Egyptian Vice President Omar Suleiman has announced that Hosni Mubarak has resigned the presidency. Mubarak has left Cairo, reportedly for Sharm el-Sheikh. Protesters in Tahrir Square erupted at the announcement by the Suleiman, who issued this statement:

“Hosni Mubarak has waived the office of presidency and told the army to run the affairs of the country. “

UPDATE: Not surprisingly, Washington is supportive of this move.

U.S. defense officials were not given any advanced warning of Mubarak’s resignation and were not sure it would happen.

As Obama administration officials began to react, Washington was using a variety of …

Mitt Romney Rewrites His Book, Just As He’s Rewritten His Views

Mitt-Romney-Mormon3

Presidential hopeful Mitt Romney has rewritten his book No Apology, which is ironic in that it is clear he is thus apologizing for his previous version. In the new version he is more critical of the economic stimulus plan and reworks his take on health care reform. This is necessary if you spearheaded the same kind of reforms that President Obama did but now you want to be critical of them.

The rewritten version proclaims that “Obamacare will not work and should be repealed,” and “Obamacare is an unconstitutional federal incursion into the rights of states.” Romney also blames …

Obama Says Mubarak Didn’t Go Far Enough

President Obama says Egypt’s President Hosni Mubarak didn’t go far enough when he refused to step down.

Hours after Mubarak’s refusal to resign provoked rage among protesters in Cairo, Obama said that Egyptians “remain unconvinced that the government is serious about a genuine transition to democracy.”

Obama earlier had watched on television as Mubarak said he would transfer power to Vice President Omar Suleiman. But the Egyptian president did not step down as many protesters had expected.

“The Egyptian government must put forward a credible, concrete and unequivocal path toward genuine democracy, and they have not yet seized that opportunity,” …

Eric Cantor Dissembles On Jobs and Healthcare

cantor1

by Sandi Behrns

A series of tweets from “The Official Twitter feed for Majority Leader Eric Cantor’s Press Office”, @CantorPress, would have us all believe that the Congressional Budget Office today declared that the Affordable Care Act will cost our nation 800,000 jobs. Clearly, this proves that “Obamacare” kills jobs…

The problem with this stunning development is that while it is being interpreted by the #tcot folks on Twitter that @CantorPress addresses as proof that “Obamacare” will further damage our economy and raise unemployment, that is not in fact the case. The truth is in the very first paragraph of …

JPMorgan Making Big $$$ Off Of American Poverty

jp-morgan1

By Cate Regan

JPMorgan Chase makes a killing from processing food stamp benefits, reports Alternet. As the largest processor of food stamp benefits in the US, JPMorgan is “contracted to provide food stamp debit cards in 26 U.S. states and the District of Columbia.”

The firm is paid per customer. This means that when the number of food stamp recipients goes up, so do JPMorgan profits… JPMorgan is taking its responsibility to keep the U.S. unemployment rate high by offshoring the servicing of many of these contracts to India, according to ABC News.

There are 43 million American families …

Right vs. Right: Ron Paul Supporters Shout “War Criminal” At Dick Cheney

Dick-300x200

At CPAC, things got ugly when Dick Cheney began to present the “Defender of the Constitution” award to Donald Rumsfeld (via Mediaite).

…as the chants of “USA! USA!” died down, a voice screaming “War criminal!” could be heard. And then, as Cheney continued to talk up his former colleague, a shouting match began between supporters of Ron Paul and the rest of the convention hall.

Mubarak Refuses To Step Down

11egypt2-span-articleLarge

President Hosni Mubarak of Egypt says he’ll delegate more authority to his vice president, but does not want to step down, contradicting earlier reports that he would announce the end of his reign today.

In a nationally televised address following a tumultuous day of political rumors and conflicting reports, Mr. Mubarak said he would “admit mistakes” and honor the sacrifices of young people killed in the three-week uprising, but that he would continue to “shoulder my responsibilities” until September, and did not give a firm indication that he would cede political power.…

AFA’s Bryan Fischer Says Native Americans Punished With Poverty And Alcoholism For Not Being Christians

Bryan Fischer of the American Family Association may have gone too far this time, putting at risk his relationship with the ultra-right-wing American Family Association. Fischer claims Native Americans are mired in poverty and alcoholism because they haven’t found Jesus.

Many of the tribal reservations today remain mired in poverty and alcoholism because many native Americans continue to cling to the darkness of indigenous superstition instead of coming into the light of Christianity and assimilating into Christian culture.

Now it seems the AFA has had enough of him (via RightWingWatch).

It appears that the AFA is now expunging Fischer’s …
