Beck Apologizes For Comparing Reform Judaism To Radical Islam

It’s only proper to acknowledge an apology when one is due, and Glenn Beck did the right thing by referring to his comment as “one of the worst analogies of all time” (via Mediaite).

He explained that he was speaking off of some information that he had heard (or misheard) from someone the day before, however the onus was entirely on him. “I’ve always told you to do your own homework,” he said. “And, in this case, I didn’t do enough homework.” He claimed that, even as the original words were coming out his mouth, he knew something was …

Most Republicans Not Backing Walker On Union Bashing

The Republican Governors Association has a website, standwithscott.com, urging support for the Wisconsin governor. But with the exception of former Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, few prominent politicians are heeding the call.

…much of the rest of the 2012 presidential field has been relatively quiet — at least on Walker’s effort to strip unions of collective bargaining rights. One potential contender, Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels, has taken a decidedly different tack, in fact. As his state faces the same problem — Democrats fleeing a vote to strip unions of collective bargaining rights — Daniels …

Now We Know: The Bailouts Worked

voltx-wide-community

General Motors has announced its first annual profit since 2004.

GM says it earned $4.7 billion in 2010, compared with a loss of $21 billion the year before. Among the beneficiaries are employees — approximately 45,000 union workers are to receive bonuses of $4,300…

GM is rebounding with the economy. Its profits were made possible by a 2009 bankruptcy and government bailout. The restructuring allowed GM to slash debt, cut employment, reduce health expenses, rewrite union contracts, winnow out surplus factories and trim the cost of building a vehicle by several thousand dollars.

GM is trading in the $34 dollar …

Georgia Republican Continues GOP Assault On Women’s Rights

s-BOBBY-FRANKLIN-GAYS-DRUG-DEALERS-large

By Yashwanth Manjunath

Georgia state Representative Bobby Franklin has introduced a bill to make abortion illegal in the state of Georgia, and criminalize miscarriage. The bill is of course completely unconstitutional and begging for a direct legal challenge to Roe v. Wade, but it gets worse.

The penalty for abortion or a miscarriage with “human involvement” would be life in prison or the death penalty! So what exactly qualifies as “human involvement”? Who knows; your guess is as good as mine. Maybe Bobby Franklin would be happy if he could personally inspect the uterus of every woman in the …

Anti-Abortion New York Billboard: “The Most Dangerous Place For An African American Is In The Womb”

billboard-blog480

An anti-abortion group called Life Always put up a billboard in Manhattan near a Planned Parenthood office racializing the abortion issue. The sign shows a young black girl in a pink dress with the words, “The most dangerous place for an African American is in the womb.”

“This billboard simply doesn’t belong in New York City,” Bill de Blasio, the city’s public advocate, said in a statement. “The ad violates the values of New Yorkers and is grossly offensive to women and minorities.”

“A mix of intolerance and bad judgment put this ad up,” Mr. de Blasio added. “Common …

Glenn Beck Compares Reform Judaism To Radical Islam

glenn-beck-teaser

In the process of attacking the 400 rabbis who signed a letter objecting to Glenn Beck’s comparisons of his detractors to Nazis, the talk host made the false charge that “there is not a single Orthodox rabbi on this list.” That being false is the least of the offense, however. Beck went on to proclaim that “Reformed” Judaism, unlike Orthodox Judaism, is more about politics than about faith. First, the branch of Judaism to which Beck refers is “Reform,” not “Reformed.”  Second, as a Reform Jew myself, I can say firsthand that this is not true. And third, the notion …

Rick Santorum: American Left Has Ruined Memory Of The Crusades; “Hates Christendom”

110223_rick_santorum_ap_328

Speaking in South Carolina, former Pennsylvania senator and current presidential hopeful Rick Santorum set himself up as the pro-Crusades candidate.

“The idea that the Crusades and the fight of Christendom against Islam is somehow an aggression on our part is absolutely anti-historical,” Santorum said in Spartanburg on Tuesday. “And that is what the perception is by the American left who hates Christendom.”

He added, “They hate Western civilization at the core. That’s the problem.”

Wow! People like me hate not only Christendom, but all of Western civilization. Santorum, trying to be historical himself, but failing miserably, claimed Christianity showed no …

Indiana Deputy AG Fired Over Incendiary Tweet

jeff-cox-new-2011-cropped-proto-custom_2

Indiana Deputy Attorney General Jeff Cox has been fired for advocating violence against protestors on his Twitter account.

Cox—who tweeted under the name JCCentCom—got into an exchange on Twitter over pro-union protesters in Wisconsin. Upon hearing a report that police might clear demonstrators from the Wisconsin capitol building, Cox responded that police should, “Use live ammunition.”

The Indiana Attorney General’s office issued a statement Wednesday that after a “thorough and expeditious review” of the situation, Cox would no longer employed by the state and that public servants should strive for civility.…

Arizona Wants A State Gun

Colt-revolver

Arizona is considering making the Colt the official firearm of the state.

Almost half the state’s lawmakers are co-sponsors of the bill honoring the Colt single-action Army revolver. The Senate Appropriations Committee voted 9-4 early Wednesday to advance the measure.

A Colt lobbyist said the revolver helped settle the Arizona Territory.

Anti-gun activists want lawmakers to consider bills limiting guns in the wake of a deadly Tucson shooting that killed six and wounded Rep. Gabrielle Giffords. But the Republican-led Legislature has a strong record of supporting gun rights.

Utah has a measure making the Browning M1911 semiautomatic a state gun …

Indiana GOP Caves: Ends Right-To-Work Push

Indiana’s Republican Senate President Pro Tem David Long says the right-to-work legislation “was a mistake” and won’t be reintroduced.

Long said he advised House Speaker Brian Bosma, R-Indianapolis, against pursuing the legislation “because of the chance it would blow up the session and we would have exactly the reaction we have out there.”

House Democrats on Tuesday fled the state, denying majority Republicans the ability to act on bills on a key deadline day for action. Meanwhile, hundreds of union workers have been at the Statehouse all week protesting the proposal — and other legislation they say is …
