House Republican Budget Plan Adds $6 Trillion To Debt

110412_obama_ryan_ap_605

Matt Miller correctly believes this fact should be shoved in the face of every Republican who doesn’t want to raise the debt limit: Paul Ryan’s plan adds $6 trillion in debt.

The supposedly “courageous,” “visionary” Paul Ryan plan — which already contains everything Republicans can think of in terms of these spending cuts — would add more debt than we’ve ever seen over a 10-year period in American history. Yet Ryan and other House GOP leaders continue to make outrageous statements to the contrary.

Without blushing. And without anyone calling them on it.

Miller has some good advice for the …

Plurality Of Republicans Think Obama Not Born In America

The New York Times/CBS poll is a big problem for the Republican Party. Besides the lack of enthusiasm for any candidate, 47% of Republicans believe President Obama was born elsewhere, while 22% don’t know, and 32% believe he was born in Hawaii (h/t Political Wire). This makes the majority of them look ignorant, and leaves them susceptible to the political hucksters who are sucking all the air out of the national dialogue.

When Republicans were asked whom they were most enthusiastic about, Mr. Huckabee was the second-most-mentioned candidate, after Mr. Romney. But the percentages were small: 8 …

The Koch Brothers Tell Their Employees How To Vote

Koch political mailer

by toma

How shallow a person are you? Do you do what other people tell you to do? Would you vote the way your employer told you to?

The legendary Koch brothers hope you’d do exactly that. That’s why they’ve been sending out propaganda packets to their workers guiding them in their decisions at the ballot box.

On the eve of the November midterm elections, Koch Industries sent an urgent letter to most of its 50,000 employees advising them on whom to vote for and warning them about the dire consequences to their families, their jobs and their country should …

Right-Wing Media Activist Andrew Breitbart Gets Very Annoyed With Martin Bashir’s Simple Questions

andrew-breitbart

by toma

Some interviews tell you a great deal about someone by the way they answer questions. Other interviews tell you a great deal about someone by the way they dodge, interrupt, argue and tell the interviewer he’s part of a conspiracy.

This interview would fall into the latter category. MSNBC’s Martin Bashir interviews right-wing media mega-source Andrew Breitbart. Breitbart, you will remember, was the guy who edited down and posted an address by then-USDA employee Shirley Sherrod that made her appear to be a racist. The full video, later released, proved her to be the exact opposite: …

Paul Ryan Collected Social Security Entitlements Until Age 18

Ryan_Flag_Background

The government stepped in to help Congressman Paul Ryan and his family when his father died.

With his father’s passing, young Paul collected Social Security benefits until age 18, which he put away for college. To make ends meet, Paul’s mother returned to school to study interior design. His siblings were off at college. Ryan remembers this difficult time bringing him and his mother closer.

Within months, Paul’s maternal grandmother moved into the house. She suffered from Alzheimer’s, and it often fell on young Paul to care for her, including brushing and braiding her hair. Ryan credits his father’s death …

Paul Ryan’s Constituents Boo Him for Advocating Tax Breaks For The Rich

Paul-Ryan

Wisconsin congressman and Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan got booed at a town hall meeting when he promoted his tax policy that favors the rich (via Think Progress).

…a constituent who described himself as a “lifelong conservative” asked Ryan about the effects of growing income inequality in our nation. The constituent noted that huge income disparities contributed to the Great Depression and the Great Recession, and thus wanted to know why the congressman was “fighting to not let the tax breaks for the wealthy expire.”

Ryan argued against “redistribut[ing]” in this manner. After the constituent noted that “there’s nothing …

Wonkette Thinks It’s Okay To Mock Trig Palin. Bulletin: It’s Not

palin-trig-birth-certificate-12-5-09-300x230

I am clearly not a Sarah Palin fan. And I don’t like that she uses her family as political props; woe to anyone who criticizes them, even if they put themselves out there as paid advocates for celibacy (after not being celibate) and go on dance shows. (Thankfully, Jennifer Grey won.)

However, the political satire site Wonkette did something truly despicable by mocking Trig Palin on his third birthday. I’m not going to link to it.  Calling a Down Syndrome child “Reagan II” while presenting a montage that also features a bottomless Sarah Palin pole dancing while gyrating toward an …

Palin Tweeter-In-Chief Complains To Media About Her Not Getting Enough Coverage

5634104785_2824dbc808

Rebecca Mansour, Sarah Palin’s digital chief, Tweeted her heart out to members of the media, complaining that her Madison tea party excursion didn’t get enough coverage. Dave Weigel has the story and the Tweets, and notes that Jim Nolte, who runs Andrew Breitbart’s Big Hollywood, is party to the media begging, as he is mentioned in the Tweets.

Apparently, Mansour believes the quickest way to the heart of a media outlet is to insult it.…

Radio Interview With Congressman Mo Brooks Defending Calling Democrats “Socialist”

images3

Alabama Congressman Mo Brooks referred to Democrats as “socialist” on the House floor and was asked by Rep. Keith Ellison to rescind the comment. Brooks did, only so he could get on with his speech; however, Brooks does believe that many Democrats want to take us down the road of socialism. I pointed out to him that, while he may not have meant it that way, he full well knows that the word “socialist” resonates with his constituency the same way “communist” and “totalitarian” does, and that it is often meant derisively. As an economics major at Duke, and with …

Right Rails Against Obama “Outburst,” Ignores Trump’s Behavior

side-300x221

Tommy Christopher puts in perspective the right-wing meme-of-the-day whereby President Obama was deemed temperamental because he gently asked a reporter to allow him to finish his answers.  But do any of these conservatives rail against Donald Trump for being prickly?

Conservatives complain when Obama comes off as cool; then they complain when he shows emotion.…
