Paul Ryan’s Assault On Vulnerable Americans Inconsistent With His Faith

guest_6862_340x340

by Cheston Catalano

Last September Charlie Rose sat down with House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan to talk about his vision for America. Ryan said, “The ideas that built [America] are the ones that made us so exceptional in the first place. What are those basic ideas? You know, I can get a little philosophical here, but your rights come from God and nature, not from government; government’s job is to protect your rights and build a society based on liberty, freedom, equality, free enterprise, self-determination, government by consent of the governed.”

Sounds pretty good, right?

Ryan has assaulted Democratic-created …

14461089_BG1

California tea party activist and Orange County GOP central committee member Marilyn Davenport circulated an email depicting President Obama and his parents as monkeys, with the words, “Now you know why–no birth certificate!”

When asked if she thought the email was appropriate, Davenport is quoted as saying, “Oh, come on! Everybody who knows me knows that I am not a racist. It was a joke. I have friends who are black. Besides, I only sent it to a few people–mostly people I didn’t think would be upset by it.”

Former Chairman of the California Republican Party Michael Schroder has …

Trump On Romney: “I’m A Much Bigger Businessman”

r-DONALD-TRUMP-MITT-ROMNEY-large570

On CNN’s State of the Union, Donald Trump once again failed to win the self-effacement award.  Speaking about his potential rival for the Republican nominaton, Mitt Romney.

“I’m a much bigger business man and have (a) much, much bigger net worth. I mean, my net worth is many, many, many times Mitt Romney,” Trump said Sunday on CNN’s “State of the Union.” “I built a very big net worth and I’d like to put that ability … to work for this country.”

Anti-Nuke Scientist Says 400K To Get Cancer From Japan Crisis

untitled1

Christopher Busby told Russia Today that 400,000 Japansese citizens will likely contract cancer from being exposed to radiation as a result of the Japanese crisis.

Challenged by the host as to the data he’s based these claims on, Busby said that he’d been in Berlin compiling research about the Chernobyl disaster and the human toll going out years later. He claims to have based his prediction upon historical data from that last major meltdown.

Japanese officials recently raised the severity level of the Fukushima crisis to 7, the same level of Russia’s Chernobyl disaster.

Busby added that should this awful …

Five Myths About Planned Parenthood

untitled

The Washington Post destroys five common myths that have been injected into the national bloodstream about Planned Parenthood:

1. Planned Parenthood’s federal funding frees up other money to pay for abortions.

Opponents of Planned Parenthood insist that giving the organization federal dollars allows it to spend other money in its budget to provide abortions. That is not possible — there is no other money.

Title X is a federal grant program that exists solely to help low-income and uninsured people access contraceptives and sexual health care; 5.2 million people use the program annually. But Congress has never appropriated enough money …

ALeqM5h7D7VUsZ1LcZR2swRz1zQ58QuPtw

Shouting to be heard over an unruly crowd, Sarah Palin appeared at a Madison tea party event to tell the assemblage that Governor Scott Walker is doing the right thing by taking away collective bargaining rights.

Hundreds of labor supporters surrounded the rally, trying to drown Palin out with chants of “Hey-hey, ho-ho, Scott Walker has got to go!” and “Recall Walker!”

“Hey, folks! He’s trying to save your jobs and your pensions!” Palin yelled into the microphone. “Your governor did the right thing and you won! Your beautiful state won! And people still have their jobs!”

Palin then falsely …

Super Rich Paying Less In Taxes Than They Have In Decades

IRS-Tax-Form-300x219

With the tax filing deadline here, it has been determined that the super rich pay less in taxes than they have in decades, and almost half of America’s earners pay no taxes.

The Internal Revenue Service tracks the tax returns with the 400 highest adjusted gross incomes each year. The average income on those returns in 2007, the latest year for IRS data, was nearly $345 million. Their average federal income tax rate was 17 percent, down from 26 percent in 1992.

Over the same period, the average federal income tax rate for all taxpayers declined to 9.3 percent from …

Republican State Governments Vs. Nature

deforestation-is-extremely-harmful-to-the-planet

by Stuart Shapiro

Elections have consequences as President Obama and Speaker Boehner often remind us.  At the state level, one of those consequences is a sharp turn against environmental policies.  Governors Paul LePage of Maine and Rick Scott of Florida are leading the charge.

The strategies have been similar across the affected states: cut budgets and personnel at regulatory agencies, prevent the issuing of new regulations, roll back land conservation and, if possible, eliminate planning boards that monitor, restrict or permit building development.

Preventing new pollution control regulations and enforcement of existing ones, while objectionable, is one thing.  Enforcement …

web-trump14_jpg_1264899cl-3

Donald Trump told Sean Hannity on Fox News that Barack Obama is “the worst president ever.” But just a few years ago, Trump told Wolf Blitzer on CNN that George W. Bush was “the worst president in the history of the United States.” He also told Blitzer, “Everything in Washington is a lie.”

Mitt Romney In Paperback More Tea Party-Friendly Than Mitt Romney In Hardcover

Mitt-Romney-Waving-to-crowd1

Gail Collins does a marvelous takedown of Mitt Romney as she notes that the reworked paperback version of his obligatory pre-presidential run book changes a few things that were not in the original.

When the new paperback edition of “No Apology” came out in February, early readers noted that not only had Romney added a new subtitle but also a new preface, ranting about the founders-hating big spenders who are now running the country. And, most notably, he had also changed some critical chunks of the original to make the text more Tea Party-friendly.

For instance, paperback Romney has now …
