Rep. Jeb Hansarling: Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security Are “Cruel Ponzi Schemes”

Texas Congressman Jeb Hensarling believes Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security are “cruel Ponzi schemes” that will make us bankrupt, even as he praised how they’vbe helped his parents and grandparents. (via Think Progress). On Morning Joe, Hensarling also claimed, “The president doesn’t give the facts to the American people.”
REP. HENSARLING: Let’s remember again the main drivers of this national debt are three large entitlement programs, programs that have been of great comfort and assistance to my parents and grandparents but they’re morphing into cruel ponzi schemes for my 9-year-old daughter and 7-year-olds. Unfortunately, the President ignores …

Shortly after everyone thought the votes were all counted and Democrat JoAnn Kloppenberg had a 204 vote lead, Waukesha County clerk Kathy Nicholaus found that she forgot to save 14,000 votes on her computer. As a result, 7500 votes went to incumbent conservative David Prosser. Nicholaus worked for Prosser in the mid-90′s in the state assembly leading Democrats to call for her resignation. Final tallies have been done and Prosser gets to keep his seat, having amassed a 7,316 vote margin.
Prosser’s campaign issued a statement Friday declaring victory.
“Today, the will of the electorate is clear with … Justice …

President Obama made a signing statement when he put ink to the budget bill and took issue with a rider, section 2262, that defunds certain White House positions, such as “czars”; and he says he is not going to abide by it.
“The President has well-established authority to supervise and oversee the executive branch, and to obtain advice in furtherance of this supervisory authority,” he wrote. “The President also has the prerogative to obtain advice that will assist him in carrying out his constitutional responsibilities, and do so not only from executive branch officials and employees outside the White House, …

Promoting an appearance in the mother country, Jerry Seinfeld was asked his view of the Royal Wedding.
Asked if he, like many Americans, was looking forward to April 29, the 56-year-old replied sarcastically: ‘Yes, I’m very excited. Well it’s a circus act, it’s an absurd act.
You know, it’s a dress-up. It’s a classic English thing of let’s play dress-up. Let’s pretend that these are special people. OK, we’ll all pretend that – that’s what theatre is,’ he continued.
‘That’s why the British have the greatest theatre in the world. They love to dress up and they love to play …

by toma
Okay, how many of you were betting that an NBC reality show regular would race into the Republican presidential candidate lead? Who figured a billionaire dark horse “Birther” would run circles around “serious” candidates Romney, Huckabee and Palin? Don’t look at me.
Here comes Public Policy Polling’s latest survey:
Every month, PPP polls Republican primary voters nationwide about their preferences for the GOP presidential nomination. Almost every month, the top four candidates have been in a statistical tie, with various candidates jockeying back and forth for slim leads. But for the first time in three months, …

Alan blogged earlier about how the budget resolution passed by the House will be an attractive target in the 2012 campaign. But Minority Whip Steny Hoyer almost tricked the Republicans into passing a budget advocated by the very conservative Republican Study Committee.
The RSC is a very large bloc of conservative Republican House members. They introduced a 10-year plan for America that makes the already far-reaching House budget look fairly moderate. It was supposed to be a symbolic vote — one that allowed conservative members to go on the record in support of slashing $9 trillion in …

Republicans in the House voted overwhelmingly to do away with Medicare while endorsing a plan that makes middle class tax hikes unavoidable.
According to the CBO, total health care expenditures for a typical 65-year-old “would be almost 40 percent higher with private coverage under the GOP plan than they would be with a continuation of traditional Medicare” in the very first year that the GOP plan goes into effect:

by toma
The Fiscal Unicorn Brigade continues its siege of America.
After Congressman Paul Ryan (R-Sparklepony Heights) unveiled his Tea Party inspired ”Path to Prosperity,” fevered wingnuts have overrun the media with their grenades of Atlantis, jackalope cannons and cold fusion blasters blazing. Their war cry? “America! What a great deal this is for you!”
Yesterday, Rick Santorum phoned in to Sean Hannity’s radio show just to take that message further. While Ryan’s proposal guts Medicaid and drastically slashes Medicare, it exempts anyone currently age 55 or older from the pain and anxiety of such reductions.
“How ridiculous is …

Ryan Patmintra, the aide to Senator Jon Kyle who said that Kyl’s inaccurate comment about Planned Parenthood “was not intended to be a factual statement” now says the “not intended to be a factual statement” remark makes no sense.
“Senator Kyl misspoke when he incorrectly cited a statistic on the Senate floor last week regarding Planned Parenthood,” Patmintra said. “Rather than simply state that in response to a media inquiry, I responded that his comment was not intended to be a factual statement; a comment that, in retrospect, made no sense. Senator Kyl neither saw nor approved that response.”…
