Mitt Romney is backing off statements that President Obama made the economy worse. Asked Thursday why he believes the president made the economy worse when the economy is growing, the Dow is rising, and unemployment is a point below where it was in October, 2009, Romney claimed:
“I didn’t say that things are worse.”

“The people of New Hampshire have waited long enough. They want to see good jobs. They want to see rising incomes. They want to see an economy that’s growing again, and …

A new Harvard Study shows Fourth of July celebrations turn kids into Republicans and are good for Republican candidates.
“The political right has been more successful in appropriating American patriotism and its symbols during the 20th century. Survey evidence also confirms that Republicans consider themselves more patriotic than Democrats. According to this interpretation, there is a political congruence between the patriotism promoted on Fourth of July and the values associated with the Republican party. Fourth of July celebrations in Republican dominated counties may thus be more politically biased events that socialize children into Republicans,” write Harvard Kennedy School Assistant …

Paul Krugman said it. Steve Benen said it. Heck, even I said it. Finally the Democratic Party is saying it. Senator Charles Schumer made explicit the connection between Republican stated goals of denying President Obama a reelection, and their policies on the economy.
“[W]e need to start asking ourselves an uncomfortable questions — are Republicans slowing down the recovery on purpose for political gain in 2012?” Schumer said. “Senator McConnell made it clear last October that his number one priority, above everything else, is to defeat President Obama. And now it is becoming clear that insisting …
