Tom Petty is considering legal action against Michele Bachmann for using “American Girl” at her presidential announcement rally.
Petty’s manager tells NBC’s Kelly O’Donnell the rocker wasn’t pleased about the use of the song and is planning to send a cease-and-desist letter over the matter. It’s the second time Petty has asked a GOP politician to stop playing his music. During the 2004 campaign, Petty issued a similar letter to George W. Bush’s re-election campaign after it played the singer’s hit, “I Won’t Back Down,” at political events.
Bachmann’s campaign has not responded to the potential suit.…

I just finished watching the movie “Yogi Bear” with my kids about 50 times (OK it was really three times and seemed like 50). The basic plot is that an evil mayor wants to sell Jellystone and Yogi, Boo Boo, and Ranger Smith must team up to stop him. Well life is imitating art in Florida (h/t Washington Independent):
Displaying contempt for the public and the environment, Gov. Rick Scott’s Department of Environmental Protection has provided only scant notice of its plan to turn over portions of up to 56 state parks to private corporations to …

New Orleans city councilman Joe Stagni sent a photo of himself in his underwear to a city employee 18 months ago. Stagni issued this statement:
“I asked for God’s mercy and forgiveness. I apologized to my wife and family and asked for their forgiveness as well. My actions and bad judgment had nothing to do with my duties and responsibilities as a public official. They were private acts, but I take full responsibility for my irresponsible behavior. This matter has been a painful experience for my family and I pray that everyone will allow our family to continue to …

It’s called the “heartbeat bill” because it declares a fetus a person the moment there’s a heartbeat and, at that moment, abortion is illegal.
Abortion-rights groups say such a law would effectively ban abortions entirely because most women don’t know they are pregnant that early in their pregnancy.
“It’s obviously an undue burden if you can’t have an abortion even before you know you are pregnant,” said Kellie Copeland, executive director of NARAL Ohio.
The legislation has raised concern from both sides of the abortion debate, including Ohio Right to Life, which has cautioned lawmakers that such a law …

Ron Carey is supporting Tim Pawlenty. He is former chair of the Minnesota Republican Party.
The Bachmann campaign and congressional offices I inherited were wildly out of control. Stacks upon stacks of unopened contributions filled the campaign office while thousands of communications from citizens waited for an answer. If she is unable, or unwilling, to handle the basic duties of a campaign or congressional office, how could she possibly manage the magnitude of the presidency?
…I know Michele Bachmann very well. She is a faithful conservative with great oratory skills, but without any leadership experience or real results from …
