Ron Howard On When The Top Tax Rate Was 90%: Those Were Happy Days

Actor/Director Ron Howard would like the Buffett rule.

“To be honest, I remember on The Andy Griffith Show when income taxes for the upper levels were as much as 90 percent,” Howard said. “And that’s the year that we often look back to with great nostalgia, and it was a time of tremendous growth. So, I’m not adverse to paying some taxes to try to help the country grow and the economy grow.”

A Big-Government Republican Governor?

r-RICK-SNYDER-large570

by Stuart Shapiro

It’s not often I find myself outflanked to the left by one of the new Republican Governors.  But Michigan Governor Rick Snyder has accomplished something I thought impossible.  He recently proposed recording the body-mass index (BMI) of children in Michigan.

I have also directed the MDCH to incorporate information about BMI in the Michigan Care Improvement Registry (MCIR), which tracks childhood immunization records. This rule change will allow a health care provider to report height and weight measurements on MCIR. The goal is to increase obesity screening rates and improve treatment of childhood obesity, which is significantly …

Secret NYPD Intelligence Program Building Files On Certain Ethnicities

518-1cuihN.Em_.55

It started with the Moroccan Initiative, as that was the first group focused upon. The New York Police Department gathered information on certain ethnicities: where they eat, work and pray, according to documents obtained by the Associated Press.

The documents obtained by the AP, many of which were marked “secret,” include a list of “Moroccan Locations,” a virtual tour of the city’s Moroccan neighborhoods. Photos of local businesses were accompanied by notes from plainclothes officers, known as rakers, who quietly kept tabs on neighborhoods and eavesdropped on conversations.

Sometimes the notes recorded in police files were detailed, such as …

Scientists Say They’ve Broken The Speed Barrier

albert-einstein1-250x150

Subatomic particles are traveling faster than light, say scientists in Geneva. If true, this would punch a huge hole in Einstein’s theory of relativity.

CERN says a neutrino beam fired from a particle accelerator near Geneva to a lab 454 miles (730 kilometers) away in Italy traveled 60 nanoseconds faster than the speed of light. Scientists calculated the margin of error at just 10 nanoseconds, making the difference statistically significant. But given the enormity of the find, they still spent months checking and rechecking their results to make sure there was no flaws in the experiment.

The CERN researchers …
