Florida Governor Rick Scott Changes Numbers On Jobs Promise

Governor Rick Scott of Florida promised 700,000 new jobs on top of Florida’s regular jobs growth. Now he is saying the promise was 700,000 total.

“Our plan,” Scott said in an October 2010 debate, “is on top of what normal growth would be.”

But this week, the governor gave a different answer. “Your pledge was for 700,000 in addition to normal growth, wasn’t it?” Scott was asked during a meeting with the Sun Sentinel editorial board.

No, he replied, “700,000.”

The governor’s position hasn’t changed, said spokesman Lane Wright.

Supreme Court Refuses To Stay Florida Execution

Only Stephen Breyer, in the minority, commented:

Breyer said he would have granted the stay, saying his “commonsense conclusion” is that “33 years in prison under threat of execution is cruel.”

Alabama State Senator Scot Beason used the term during an undercover FBI investigation of bribes to elected officials.

Beason and two other Republican legislators were talking about economic development in predominantly black Greene County and the customers at one of the county’s largest employers, the Greenetrack casino in Eutaw.

“That’s y’all’s Indians,” one Republican said.

“They’re aborigines, but they’re not Indians,” Beason replied.

Now, Beason is apologizing, saying his words were “careless, inappropriate and unnecessary.”
