Birthers To Target Marco Rubio

They may be done with Obama, but the birthers have another target, rising GOP star, Florida Senator Marco Rubio.
Birther Charles Kerchner has a blog that was once devoted mostly to Obama, but lately, he’s been on a campaign to illustrate that Rubio is not a natural born citizen, and thus, ineligible to enter the White House. Kerchner’s logic is convoluted—something of a trend among the birther set. He claims that Rubio is actually a Cuban citizen, even though Rubio was born on American soil, in Miami, in 1971. But Rubio’s parents were Cubans, who didn’t become US citizens …

Jon Bon Jovi wants to give low income families an alternative to unhealthy food.
The Jon Bon Jovi Soul Kitchen opened on Wednesday in Red Bank, New Jersey, near the singer’s hometown of Sayreville. After two years of serving meals in various locations, the “community kitchen” has set up a permanent location in a 1,100 sq ft former garage. While customers are welcome to pay for their meals, those who are, er, living on a prayer may instead work as volunteers. “Picture the coolest brasserie in your hometown, that’s what this is,” Bon Jovi told New York magazine. “It’s the …

Al Jazeera says this video took place before Muammar Qaddafi died.
Gaddafi was shown being manhandled by a group of fighters and appearing to struggle against them at one point.
He was shown with a bloodied face and being pushed against a car and being struck on the head by a pistol.

I was relieved to see that the Republican presidential candidates did not complain about the cost of regulation in Tuesday’s debate. I wish I thought that was because they saw the one-sidedness of that argument and its inherent weakness instead of the urge to bash Mitt Romney, but I’ll take what I can get.
In case they want to return to citing regulation as the primary roadblock to recovery, here is a nice piece from Jonathan Adler of the Consumer Product Safety Commission.
Not all regulation is bad, nor is it always more costly. And one of …

An Associated Press study shows black precincts are hit hardest by South Carolina’s new voter photo identification law.
The analysis shows that among the state’s 2,134 precincts there are 10 precincts where nearly all of the law’s affect falls on nonwhite voters who don’t have a state-issued driver’s license or ID card, a total of 1,977 voters.
The same holds true for white voters in a number of precincts, but the overall effect is much more spread out and involves fewer total voters: There are 44 precincts where only white voters are affected, or 1,831 people in all.…

Washington Post fact checker Glenn Kessler punches holes in the ludicrous claim that five million jobs would be created with the GOP jobs plan.
Senate Republicans, including Rand Paul (Ky.), John McCain (Ariz.) and Rob Portman (Ohio), last week unveiled what they labeled as their alternative to Obama’s plan. Their plan was mostly a mish-mash of previous offered bills, such as that hardy perennial–a balanced budget amendment to the constitution. (Some experts would argue that such a requirement could hurt employment if government spending dropped too quickly.)
…Moira Bagley, a spokesman for Paul, said the figure was derived from three …

Fighters battling in Muammar Qaddafi’s hometown of Sirte killed the Libyan leader, says the interim government.
Al-Jazeera television showed what it said was Colonel Qaddafi’s corpse as jubilant fighters in Surt fired automatic weapons in the air, punctuating what appeared to be an emphatic and violent ending to his four decades as the self-proclaimed king of kings of Africa.
Libyans rejoiced as news of his death spread. Car horns blared in Tripoli as residents poured into the streets to celebrate.
Mahmoud Shammam, the chief spokesman of the Transitional National Council, the interim government that replaced Colonel Qaddafi’s regime after …

Herman Cain told Piers Morgan he’s anti-abortion but that people should be able to make their own choices, as government should not be involved.
…ultimately gets down to a choice that that family or that mother has to make. Not me as president. Not some politician. Not a bureaucrat. It gets down to that family. And whatever they decide, they decide. I shouldn’t try to tell them what decision to make for such a sensitive decision.
He’s also anti-gay marriage, thinks being gay is a choice and a sin, but the government shouldn’t be in the marriage business.

Union Township, New Jersey high school teacher Viki Knox posted anti-gay comments on her Facebook page, and some parents are calling for her ouster.
Knox posted an image on her Facebook page of a display at Union which promotes October as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender History Month. She said she was “pitching a fit” over it, and she described homosexuality as a “perverted spirit” and a sinful lifestyle, saying, “I know sin and it breeds like cancer!”
Governor Chris Christie called this “disturbing.”
“I think that kind of example is not a positive one at all to be setting …
