Detained Immigrants Face Rampant Sexual Abuse In U.S.

There is widespread sexual abuse of immigrants at detention facilities in the United States according to civil rights attorneys.
The American Civil Liberties Union has discovered details of 185 official complaints of sexual abuse that have been made against the main immigration authority in the US, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) since 2007. The ACLU, which obtained the details through freedom of information requests, believes that is just the tip of the iceberg.
Most of the complaints involve allegations of abusive sexual advances made by male detention officers against female detainees. What struck ACLU researchers was that the claims were …

The coffee company known for its dark-roasted beans unveiled its lighter blend “Starbucks Blonde Roast” Tuesday, as it tries to reach a wider base of consumers.
Starbucks has long faced criticism from people who think its coffee is too dark or bitter. The company said it developed the new roast for the large number of U.S. consumers who prefer a lighter-tasting coffee.

The movement seems to be coming together and is beginning to get some structure and there is a “99 Percent Declaration” (h/t Global Grind). There will be a General Assembly meeting in Philadelphia on July 4, 2012.
They plan to elect delegates by direct vote, one male and one female per each of the 435 Congressional Districts. The office would be open to any United States citizen over the age of 18. The 870 delegates would then compose a petition of grievances that would be non-partisan.
