Largest Occupy Wall Street Donor Is Mitt Romney Backer

17halper2-cityroom-blog480

Retired Wall Street trader and former Mercantile Exchange VP Robert Halper gave $20,000 to help launch Occupy Wall Street. He is also a backer of Mitt Romney.

But for what it’s worth, Halper seems to agree more with the protesters than with Romney—he says that “pain… should be shared” and “people who have money… should pay something more, whether that’s in taxes or somewhere else”—though the Times says he’s “ambivalent” about Occupy Wall Street in general. Even so, he’s been down in Zuccotti Park every day talking to people. It’s “the coolest place in New York,” he says.…

Herman Cain: Liberals Killed Conservative Jesus

Jesus-christ-photos

Herman Cain wrote a column last year where he claimed that Jesus was a conservative and a liberal court killed him.

The liberal court found Him guilty of false offences and sentenced Him to death, all because He changed the hearts and minds of men with an army of 12. His death reset the clock of time. Never before and not since has there ever been such a perfect conservative.

Jesus was a conservative, Cain claims, because he “helped the poor without one government program.” But it’s not quite clear why Cain believes the court was liberal.…

His Former Doctor: Venezuela’s Chavez Has Less Than Two Years To Live

hugo

Hugo Chavez’s former doctor says his prognosis is not good.

Chavez, 57, has been through four rounds of chemotherapy in Cuba since revealing he had a cancerous tumor removed in June. But Venezuela has provided few details about the exact nature of the cancer, aside from that it was in the pelvic area.

Salvador Navarrete, his former personal surgeon, told Mexican newspaper Milenio Semanal on Sunday that the leader’s condition likely was worse than publicly admitted.

The doctor described the prognosis as “not good.” He added, “When I say this, I mean that he has no more than two …

Cain Fought Stricter Drunk Driving Laws

Cain-Double-Point-cropped-proto-custom_28

As head of the National Restaurant Association, Herman Cain stood against stricter laws against drunk driving because they were bad for business.

When Cain took over as CEO of the NRA in 1996, anti-drunk driving groups were leading a campaign to lower the blood alcohol limit for a DUI to .08 across the country: the equivalent for a 170 pound-man of about five beers in two hours. The majority of states used a .10 limit as their standard, which advocates argued was an insufficiently tough deterrent and left plenty of still-dangerous drivers on the road.

Enter the restaurant industry, whose …

Is Romney Legal Adviser Robert Bork Indicative Of Who Would Pack A Romney Court?

bork

Failed Supreme Court nominee Robert Bork insists women aren’t discriminated against anymore in a Newsweek interview. If he is advising Mitt Romney on matters judicial, let’s be aware of the list of his other alarming views as well.

Bork once described the federal ban on whites-only lunch counters as “unsurpassed ugliness.” He believes that the government is free to ban contraception outright. And he even thinks the government can outright criminalize sex.

And Bork believes in censorship.

“Sooner or later,” he claims “censorship is going to have to be considered as popular culture continues plunging to ever more …

The Myth of American Exceptionalism

walt_picnik

Submitted by Karthiks

Political scientist Stephen Walt punches holes in the concept of “American exceptionalism.” Among the myths:

  • There Is Something Exceptional About American Exceptionalism.
  • Most great powers have considered themselves superior to their rivals and have believed that they were advancing some greater good when they imposed their preferences on other…Even many of the officials of the former Soviet Union genuinely believed they were leading the world toward a socialist utopia despite the many cruelties that communist rule inflicted. Of course, the United States has by far the better claim to virtue than Stalin or his successors, but …

Pat Robertson: OWS Means Obama “Is Inciting People To Revolt”

On The 700 Club, Pat Robertson and anchorman Lee Webb warn us about the Occupy Wall Streeters:

After discussing recent demonstrations against austerity plans in Greece, Webb predicted that the Occupy Wall Street protesters won’t turn violent but only because winter is soon approaching. Robertson, who last week called the Occupy Wall Street activists “clowns” and “nuts” who needed to “blow off steam,” said that “the match to the kindling is being provided by our noble president.”
