The Republican Congress, rather than focusing on jobs, is busy pandering to its religious base. It hopes to pass a resolution Tuesday reaffirming that the nation’s motto is “In God We Trust.” (h/t Politicususa)
The proposed resolution, sponsored by Rep. Randy Forbes, R-Va., is aimed at “supporting and encouraging the public display of the national motto in all public buildings, public schools and other government institutions.”
Republicans argue the resolution, to go to a vote Tuesday, would help reverse what they see as an informal effort to remove mention of God from public buildings, The Hill reported.…

Mark Block, seen in the infamous Cain smoking video, has a checkered past.
Block has been accused of voter suppression and was banned from running Wisconsin political campaigns for three years to settle accusations he coordinated a judge’s re-election campaign with a special interest group.
Records show Block has faced foreclosure on his home, a tax warrant by the Internal Revenue Service and a lawsuit for an unpaid bill. He also acknowledges he was arrested twice for drunken driving.…

Oakland Mayor Jean Quan says she’s sorry for clashes with the police that left former Marine Scott Olsen hospitalized with brain damage.
“I am deeply saddened about the outcome on Tuesday,” Quan said in a video statement posted online in which the shouts of protesters rallying outside City Hall could be heard in the background.
“It was not what anyone hoped for. Ultimately, it was my responsibility, and I apologise for what happened,” she said. “We can change America, but we must unite and not divide our city. I hope we can work together.
