Chicago Could Decriminalize Marijuana

Chicago may decriminalize marijuana to free up police to focus on real crime.

Chicago police make about 23,000 arrests each year for possession of the drug, a misdemeanor which nevertheless carries stiff punishment of up to six months in jail, a $1,500 fine and a criminal record.

Under the new law set to be introduced next week, people caught with less than 10 grams of marijuana would instead face a $200 fine and up to 10 hours of community service.

Marijuana has already been downgraded to a lesser offense in several Chicago suburbs and areas of Cook County patrolled by …

Pat Robertson: Christians Should Not Be Part Of OWS Because “It Could Be Used By Radicals Who Want To Destroy This Nation”

Pat Robertson told Terry Meeuwsen on the 700 Club that Christians should be against Occupy Wall Street.

Meeuwsen: Is it all right for Christians to be involved in Occupy Wall Street? Should we, as believers, be loyal to anything like that?

Robertson: No I don’t, I think this is a rebellion. I think it is atavistic. Nobody knows exactly what it is, they don’t know what they’re doing, why are they there? Well they’re just mad. Well, is it right for a Christian to get involved in a protest of anger? If you’re going to demonstrate demonstrate for …

Wisconsin To Allow Guns In The State Assembly

wisconsin-capitol-protest1

Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker is developing plans to allow guns in the state Capitol, including in the Assembly and on the Assembly floor.

That would mean the public could bring guns into the viewing galleries but would still have to adhere to other existing rules, including one that bars the use of still cameras and video cameras.

“People who carry concealed can come in my office, I don’t care,” said Rep. Robin Vos (R-Rochester).

So, under Walker’s rule, it will be much more difficult to shoot pictures than to shoot bullets.…

Herman Cain’s Staff Told “Do Not Speak To Him Unless You Are Spoken To”

Herman-Cain-1

If management skills are the big selling point for Herman Cain, they’ve not been evident in his campaign.

Mr. Cain has hardly shown up in New Hampshire and Iowa, they said, spending the bulk of his time on a book tour through the South. He occasionally mishandled potential big donors or ignored real voters. His campaign churned through the small staff; last week, his campaign announced the appointment of the veteran campaigner Steve Grubbs, his third Iowa leader in four months.

Even bumper stickers have been hard to come by.

And then there was that e-mail to the staff about …

Rick Perry, Who Favored Confederate Symbols, Opposes Confederate License Plates

65636415

Rick Perry fought on behalf of confederate symbols as Texas governor, but now opposes a confederate flag on Texas license plates.

…now in the national limelight, Perry is not so gung-ho. The Texas Sons of Confederate Veterans want to put a confederate flag on Texas license plates to “remember Texans who died fighting in the Civil War.” But Perry dismissed the plan yesterday, “We don’t need to be scraping old wounds.” His spokeswoman clarified, “While the governor believes this is a decision for the DMV board, he personally does not support the Confederate plate.” The Sons of Confederate Veterans response …

Koran-Burning Preacher Running For President

20100801_zaf_v80_017.pre_

Koran-burning Gainesville preacher Terry Jones is running for president. Among his positions:

Deport all illegals.

We must immediately begin the deportation of the 20 million illegal aliens living in our country.

This would be an operation similar to what Eisenhower did to provide jobs for the soldiers who were coming home after the war.

Just what the Republican Party needs, more whackos running for president.…

Russell Simmons To OWS: “Fight Right Or Go Home”

russell-simmons-yoga-at-ows

Entrepreneur and activist Russell Simmons is a strong supporter of Occupy Wall Street and has been there in solidarity many days. He has an important message for the protesters:

I’m hearing reports from the field about throwing bottles and cans in Oakland. I understand the frustration – I over-stand it! But real change – the change that got blacks the right the vote, that freed South Africa, that ended Vietnam – they were all NON-VIOLENT. For a reason. They had MORAL POWER. This is the power that Christ harnessed…

Throwing cans and bottles can may make you feel OK, …

China Limits “Overly Entertaining” Television Shows

map

The Chinese government is worried about programming that fosters independent thinking.

The order follows a Communist Party meeting last week that asserted the need for strengthening social morality and boosting China’s cultural influence abroad – a recognition by the party that it is losing its power to dictate public opinion. Social media, especially hugely popular microblogs that encourage individuals to generate content, are also being targeted by government censors.…

Rick Perry May Bow Out Of Future Debates

1100102_rick_perry_605_ap

Rick Perry has agreed to an upcoming Michigan debates, but may not participate in ones after that.

Perry spokesman Mark Miner said the issue is using time wisely, and noted their campaign is not alone in that.

“I think all the campaigns are expressing frustration right now,” Miner told POLITICO. “We said we would do Michigan but the primaries are around the corner and you have to use your time accordingly.”

And one doesn’t one to use one’s time doing things that doesn’t make one look good, does one?…

Christian Talker: Lesbian Nurses Can Make Kids Gay

linda_harvey

Linda Harvey is warning parents to keep their kids away from LGBT health care professionals.

Harvey acknowledged that LGBT healthcare professionals “can be certainly competent workers,” but she expressed concerns that “their involvement with your child during a hospital stay is sure to be an influence … they are tacking on to their workplace identity one that is highly offensive to many people and can be erroneously influential to children who won’t, or shouldn’t, see the whole picture of how this behavior really manifests itself.”

“(Let’s) say your 11-year-old has broken her leg rather badly and needs to be in …
