Rick Perry offers his remedy for the economy in Tuesday’s Wall Street Journal.

The plan starts with giving Americans a choice between a new, flat tax rate of 20% or their current income tax rate. The new flat tax preserves mortgage interest, charitable and state and local tax exemptions for families earning less than $500,000 annually, and it increases the standard deduction to $12,500 for individuals and dependents.

This simple 20% flat tax will allow Americans to file their taxes on a postcard, saving up to $483 billion in compliance costs. By eliminating the dozens of carve-outs that make …

Newt Friday: Obama “Right” To Withdraw From Iraq; Newt Sunday: “A Decisive Defeat For The United States”

Newt Gingrich praised the Iraq withdrawal Friday, but then called it a “defeat” on Sunday.

Friday:

“This is not about Obama,” he continued. “This is about the general effort that far transcends Iraq. That we have to really reassess our strategies in the region and what we think we’re accomplish. The president is right. You can’t just leave 3,000 or 5,000 troops there. They would simply become targets. If you’re not going to occupy the country, you have to withdraw.”

Sunday:

“The president has announced what will be seen by historians as a decisive defeat for the U.S. in Iraq. …

Qaddafi Sodomized After Capture

qaddafi_hires_1020_620x350

A frame-by-frame examination of the capture of Muammar Qaddafi shows he was sodomized by Libya’s “liberators.”

On top of Qaddafi’s death, revolutionary forces are also being scrutinized for their treatment of loyalists in general. New York-based Human Rights Watch Monday warned of a “trend of killings, looting and other abuses” after 53 people, apparently Qaddafi loyalists, were found dead in a Sirte hotel. The condition of the bodies suggests they may have been executed.…

Where Does Rick Perry Stand On Confederate License Plates For Texas?

NA-BN830_TXPLAT_F_20111021171138

The Sons of Confederate Veterans want a specialty license plate, but are meeting strong opposition from those who see the Confederate battle flag as a symbol of slavery. So far, Governor Rick Perry hasn’t commented.

Catherine Frazier, a spokeswoman for Mr. Perry’s presidential campaign, said the decision on the Confederate flag plate rests squarely with the board of the Department of Motor Vehicles.

“Gov. Perry did not bring this plate to the…board and at no time has he asked for it to be approved,” Victor Vandergriff, the board chairman, said in a statement. “We continue to encourage the public to …

Michele And Marcus Bachamann Say Being Gay Is “Personal Bondage…Despair…Enslavement”

r-MICHELE-BACHMANN-MARCUS-BACHMANN-GAY-large570

In the October 31 People magazine, Michele and Marcus Bachmann defend previous statements they’ve made about homosexuality.

Michele Bachmann said in 2004 that being “involved in the gay and lesbian lifestyle” amounts to “personal bondage, personal despair and personal enslavement.” She added that she was not “bashing” anyone.

Her husband has compared gays to “barbarians” who need to be “disciplined.” He runs a Christian counseling center that has offered therapy to try to change sexual orientation, according to an undercover investigation by Truth Wins Out, a gay rights organization.

In the Oct. 31 issue of People, the couple defended themselves …

More That President Obama Is Doing On His Own

obama-working-the-phones1

by Stuart Shapiro

Last night Alan posted about President Obama’s efforts to jump start a recovery by using the powers of the presidency.  This is not unusual.  All presidents, regardless of party, turn to their own powers when faced with a hostile Congress.  And it is not just about creating jobs that the Obama administration has been hard at work over the past week (h/t RegBlog on both).  The Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) moved forward on implementing recommendations made in the wake of the nuclear disaster in Japan.

The recommendations include new standards aimed at strengthening operators’ ability to deal …

This Is The Rebel Fighter Who Says He Killed Qaddafi

Senad el Sadık el Ureyb says he had the bullet with Muammar Qaddafi’s name on it.

“We grabbed him, I hit him in the face. Some fighters wanted to take him away and that’s when I shot him twice, in the head and in the chest.”

He noted that Gaddafi didn’t die instantaneously, and that it took half an hour. He said he didn’t like the idea of Gaddadi being caught alive.

The video (below) also shows a bloodied shirt which allegedly belonged to the dictator and a golden ring with his wife’s name engraved on it. The claims cannot …

Mitt Romney Flip-Flops On Flat Tax

who-is-mitt-romney-799112-2620d3c

With Republicans lining up to criticize the tax code, Mitt Romney is struggling to stay in step. Once fierce critic of the flat tax, he is now setting himself up to support it.

[Romney] famously derided Steve Forbes’s 1996 proposal as a “tax cut for fat cats.” Lately, though, his tone has been more positive. “I love a flat tax,” he said in August…

But flat taxes, despite Mr. Romney’s favorable comments, are not part of his campaign plan, which calls for extending Bush tax cuts and lowering corporate tax rates. Some conservative tax activists say his murky …
