Joe Lieberman Giving Aid And Comfort To Republicans Who Want His Seat

md_horiz

A briefing with Republican contender Linda McMahon and encouragement to Republican Chris Shays inform Democrats that Senator Lieberman won’t be much help to them going forward.

“Some of what he does seems designed to make it hard for progressives and the Democratic establishment to ignore him,” said Jon Green, director of the Working Families Party in Connecticut. “But everyone does their best.”

A top Democratic official in Washington was more pointed.

“I don’t think he’s interested in helping us,” said the official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because he did not want to cause tensions with the senator. …

What The Right Wing Will Be Saying Today: Libya To Become More Radical Under Islamic Law

Mustafa-Abdul-Jali_2034083c

Expect the right to go with this one.  And they’ll blame President Obama for creating the situation.

Mustafa Abdul-Jalil, the chairman of the National Transitional Council and de fact president, had already declared that Libyan laws in future would have Sharia, the Islamic code, as its “basic source”.

…In a blow to those who hoped to see Libya’s economy integrate further into the western world, he announced that in future bank regulations would ban the charging of interest, in line with Sharia. “Interest creates disease and hatred among people,” he said…

Libya is already the most conservative state in …

With Congress Saying No To Jobs Plan, What Obama Will Do On His Own

President Obama will lay out his own plans this week to spur jobs in light of not getting cooperation from Congress.

Mr. Obama will kick off his new offensive in Las Vegas, ground zero of the housing bust, by promoting new rules for federally guaranteed mortgages so that more homeowners, those with little or no equity in their homes, can refinance and avert foreclosure.

And Wednesday in Denver, the official said, Mr. Obama will announce policy changes to ease college graduates’ repayment of federal loans, seeking to alleviate the financial concerns of students considering college at a time when states …

Herman Cain Shows No Understanding Of The Constitution In Pro-Life Amendment Statement

Herman Cain told Christian Broadcasting Network’s David Brody he’d sign a pro-life constitutional amendment.

David Brody: “Are you for some sort of pro-life amendment to the constitution that in essence would trump Roe v. Wade?”

Herman Cain: “Yes. Yes I feel that strongly about it. If we can get the necessary support and it comes to my desk I’ll sign it. That’s all I can do. I will sign it.”

Cain doesn’t seem to realize that presidents don’t sign constitutional amendments. And his comment that he was basically taken out of context on his varying statements on abortion

Ahmadinejad To Fareed Zakaria: America Is “Hated In The Whole The World” Because Of Its Actions

The Iranian president offered “a friendly recommendation” to the United States on CNN:

“The United States has become weaker and weaker,” Ahmadinejad sniped. “And now, they are hated in the region. They are hated in the whole world. Anywhere in the world, if you go, you see that the U.S. government is hated.”

“We must be very much happy if their policies fail everywhere in the world and we should encourage them, ‘OK, go on, go on.’ And if we were not since, we should encourage the United States to remain in Iraq and in Afghanistan because they …

ICE Agent To Homeowners: “The Warrant Is Coming Out Of My Balls”

ICE-Immigration-Raids

Two armed Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agents broke into the Nashville home of Angel Enrique and Jesus Antonio last year, breaking a window and shouting racial slurs.

Did they even have a warrant, Enrique and Antonio asked? “The warrant,” one agent told them, “is coming out of my balls.” So… no.

The ACLU and its Tennessee branch are filing suit against ICE on behalf of Enrique, Antonio, and the other 13 residents of their apartment complex whose rights were allegedly violated by the agents.

We don’t need a warrant, we’re ICE.”

The Fourth Amendment strictly prohibits warrantless intrusions …

Rick Perry Goes Birther In Parade Interview

PARADE_Rick_Perry

In the current Parade Magazine, Rick Perry says he doesn’t have “any idea” if President Obama’s birth certificate is real, and seems to have been influenced by Donald Trump, who still has his doubts.

Governor, do you believe that President Barack Obama was born in the United States?

I have no reason to think otherwise.

That’s not a definitive, “Yes, I believe he”—

Well, I don’t have a definitive answer, because he’s never seen my birth certificate.

But you’ve seen his.

I don’t know. Have I?

You don’t believe what’s been released?

I don’t know. I had dinner with …

Hamid Karzai: Afghanistan Would Side With Pakistan In War With United States

Hamid-Karzai-with-Hillary-007

After losing thousands of American lives in Afghanistan, President Hamid Karzai says his loyalty is to Pakistan, not the United States.

“If there is war between Pakistan and America, we will stand by Pakistan,” Karzai said in a television interview. He put his hand on his heart and described Pakistan as a “brother” country…

Karzai – who is scrambling to ensure his political future in advance of the US military drawdown in 2014 – needs Pakistani help to bring the Taliban to peace talks. In the event of any conflict, his army, which is wholly dependent on US money …
