Russell Simmons can see Zuccotti Park from his window and stands in solidarity with the movement daily. He knows what is truly going in there:
I didn’t join the crowd to answer anyone’s threat or to prove a point. It actually seemed silly to me that the Occupiers were being challenged to retaliate in reaction to the recent raid on their home – as if something like that could kill what this movement has become. I was there simply to support a movement that I believe in…

A group of conservative women, including Victoria Jackson, calling themselves PolitiChicks, are doing their version of The View. It can’t even be described.

Alleged White House Shooter Oscar Ramiro Ortega-Hernandez, says he is “a modern-day Jesus Christ” in video he made to send to Oprah Winfrey.
“You see Oprah, there is still so much more that God needs me to express to the world. It’s not just a coincidence that I look like Jesus. I am the modern day Jesus Christ that you all have been waiting for,” Ortega-Hernandez says in a video shown on WTTG Fox 5.
The Washington, D.C., station says it obtained a portion of the video which Secret Service learned about earlier this week from Ortega-Hernandez’s girlfriend. …

Submitted by William
Mallory Pope of Occupy Memphis told a bunch of tea partiers that politicians shouldn’t be influenced by unions and lobbyists.
“It sounds to me that y’all ought to be joining us,” said Jerry Rains, a 64-year-old computer programmer and tea party member. “You have a lot of the same goals we have, which is to take our country back.”
…University of Memphis students had been invited by the tea party group to talk about the goals of the Occupy movement. The invitation was extended after a discussion between members of both groups on the tea party’s website, …

Arizona Governor Jan Brewer fired the head of the Arizona Independent Redistricting Commission, probably because it was too independent, although she couldn’t give me a coherent reason when I asked her about it. But the Arizona Supreme Court has ordered Colleen Coyle Mathis reinstated.
The court decided the governor’s Nov. 1 removal letter to Colleen Coyle Mathis did not demonstrate “substantial neglect of duty, gross misconduct in office or inability to discharge the duties of office.”
…Commission representatives said they need to talk to the five commissioners and figure out the next move.
Dennis Michael Burke, one of …

by Stuart Shapiro
Steve Hayward of the American Enterprise Institute has a very insightful piece on the problems of 21st Century conservatism (and liberalism, while he’s at it). I could not do it justice by summarizing it, so please click through. Here is an excerpt:
For those willing to probe a bit deeper, however, it should quickly become apparent that we badly need to take stock of our position. Conservatism, despite these impressive electoral victories, is failing on its own terms. Start with the social indicators, which are the most important to conservatives. America’s fast-growing and largely minority underclass shows …

Debra Long says her biological son, adopted by Jerry Sandusky, became troubled after being in his care. Matt was initially enamored of Sandsuky, but then became frightened of him (via GlobalGrind).
My son was afraid of Jerry. If Jerry said don’t talk, he didn’t talk. I would sit back and watch when Jerry would show up, how excited Matt was. And then, as time went on, I would watch the same kid hide behind the bedroom door and say, ‘Mom, tell him I’m not home.’”

When the Obama administration announced the withdrawal of the EPA smog standards, I wrote that it was clear that this was a decision that came from the top. Today the New York Times agreed.
The half-hour meeting in the Oval Office was not a negotiation; the president had decided against ratcheting up the ozone rule because of the cost and the uncertainty it would impose on industry and local governments. He clearly understood the scientific, legal and political implications. He told Ms. Jackson that she would have an opportunity to revisit the Clean Air Act standard …
