President Obama’s Top Secret Strategy

President Obama ran a brilliant campaign in 2008 but the job is much harder this time. The Bush recession lingers and Congress refuses to help. So what is an incumbent to do?
In a recent interview with a group of journalists, President Barack Obama revealed his secret weapon for winning the election in 2012.
“I don’t think it requires us to go negative in the sense of us running a bunch of ads that are false or character assassinations,” he said. “We may just run clips of the Republican debates verbatim. We won’t even comment on …

Republicans are getting ready to accept that tax increases will be part of a revenue deal.
Lawmakers emerged from the closed-door meeting saying [Rep. Jeb] Hensarling had made the case that offering some new revenue — $300 billion in at least one publicized offer — would be a good trade to secure a permanent extension of the George W. Bush-era tax rates.
Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) told reporters after the briefing that the GOP had made “a fair offer,” referring to a proposal from supercommittee member Sen. Pat Toomey (R-Pa.) that would call for about $300 billion in new taxes …

More Herman Cain from the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinal:
Cain brought up the GOP debate on foreign policy two days earlier.
“That’s a tough subject. You don’t want to get your facts mixed up,” he said.
He defended his view that presidents and presidential candidates don’t need to be immersed in the fine print of world affairs – they simply need to be leaders who can surround themselves with the right people and sift through their advice.
“I’m not supposed to know anything about foreign policy. Just thought I’d throw that out,” he said, a dig at his critics.
“I want …

Submitted by Mary
Thursday will be an International Day of Action with simultaneous global protests.
Starting early, at 7 am, demonstrators will attempt to “Shut Down Wall Street” by telling stories of people on the frontlines of economic injustice. The idea is to peacefully but firmly “exchange stories rather than stocks” and, at the very least, change the covnersation for the day.
At 3 pm, activists will gather at sixteen central subway hubs and take their own stories to the trains, using the “people’s mic.” This is not an effort to disrupt or delay the subways, rather an attempt …

Buddy and Pedro were separated by the Toronto Zoo so they could reproduce, but they will be reunited in the spring.
…when the breeding season is over, all the African penguins will eventually return to the same enclosure, and “if Buddy and Pedro want to be together … they will be back together,” said Tom Mason, Toronto Zoo curator of birds.
But will they want to stay together after copulating and bonding with a female?
…The Toronto Zoo’s species survival plan aims to help the endangered penguins populate, but the process can’t be forced. It all depends on how well …

Joe Paul, vice president of student affairs, says the executive officers of Phi Mu and the women involved met on Sunday with a group of African-American student leaders at the university.
Phi Mu National President Kris Bridges says the matter is being investigated and more disciplinary action could follow. She says the local chapter will sponsor a campus-wide program on diversity appreciation.

John McCain, who looks better and better with each passing Republican debate, did not have kind words for Herman Cain and Rep. Michele Bachmann after they supported waterboarding in the debate Saturday night.
The Arizona lawmaker—who was tortured himself while a prisoner of war in Vietnam — said the controversial practice was both illegal and ineffective on Monday evening.
“Very disappointed by statements at SC GOP debate supporting waterboarding,” he tweeted. “Waterboarding is torture.”
McCain, who ran for President in 2008, elaborated on CNN later, arguing, “If you put enough physical pain on somebody, they will tell …
