Christie Slams Obama: “What The Hell Are We Paying You For?”
Governor Chris Christie lashed out at President Obama Monday for the failure of the debt commission.
“I was angry this weekend, listening to the spin coming out of the administration, about the failure of the supercommittee, and that the president knew it was doomed for failure, so he didn’t get involved. Well, then what the hell are we paying you for?” Christie said in Camden, N.J. ” ‘It’s doomed for failure, so I’m not getting involved’? Well, what have you been doing, exactly?”

Before Penn State and Sandusky, before Syracuse and Fine, two months ago in fact, Taylor Branch (author of the definitive history of the civil rights movement) wrote a searing indictment of college sports for the Atlantic. The article is too long to summarize in a blog post but it is hard to read it and escape the conclusion that college athletes should be paid.
The list of scandals goes on. With each revelation, there is much wringing of hands. Critics scold schools for breaking faith with their educational mission, and for failing to enforce the …

Barney Frank’s exit from the political stage shouldn’t make conservatives happy. Frank has more in common with conservatives, especially free marketeers like Ron Paul, than they’ll admit.
Those who agree with the founders that Congress, not unaccountable Fed bureaucrats, should be in charge of the value of the dollar may find themselves missing Frank. Paul’s “audit” of the Federal Reserve, shepherded into the final Dodd-Frank financial reform legislation by Frank, is one of that bill’s few redeeming features.
Another area in which libertarians such as Paul and liberals such as Frank found themselves working together was reform of marijuana …

Children in Japan are afraid to go outside because of radiation fears. Doctors worry this is stunting their growth.
“The kids just can’t play in the dirt or enjoy nature,” teacher Junko Akanuma said. “They may look cheerful enough but they are building up tremendous amounts of stress inside.”
According to doctors stress in children can lead to physical problems.…

Ginger White says she had a 13-year affair with Herman Cain.
White, an unemployed single mother, said the alleged affair had been “fun”, taking her out of her humdrum life. She claimed she had some evidence to support her claim, including text messages sent late at night.
Cain’s attorney, Lin Wood, says the media shouldn’t be covering “an accusation of private, alelged consensual conduct.”
“This is not an accusation of harassment in the workplace – this is not an accusation of an assault – which are subject matters of legitimate inquiry to a political candidate. Rather, this appears to be …

Michele Bachmann and others who want to deport every illegal immigrant may not realize the costs of such action. The Center for American Progress evaluated what the costs would be.
[T]he cost of deporting the undocumented population would total $285 billion over five years.
It costs $23,148 for each person to be apprehended, detained, legally processed, and transported out of the country. A deportation-only policy would amount to $922 in new taxes for “every man, woman, and child in this country” — an exorbitant price tag for the satisfaction of appearing tough on immigrants.
Furthermore, mass deportation would reduce the …

Hundreds of enraged Pakistanis set fire to the U.S. flag and burned an effigy of President Obama to protest the NATO air strike that killed 24 soldiers.
They shouted ‘down with America, stay away Americans, Pakistan is ours, we stand shoulder-to-shoulder with our army’, while Pakistani riot police were deployed near the consulate.
Outside the press club in Karachi, dozens of political activists burnt an effigy of Obama.
In the central city of Multan, more than 300 activists loyal to the former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, as well as local traders took to the streets, burning US and NATO …

After 16 terms, Massachusetts Congressman Barney Frank will not seek re-election in 2012.
The reasons for Frank’s largely unexpected decision to retire from Congress were not immediately clear, though some analysts speculated they may be tied to changed boundaries for his 4th Congressional District after Massachusetts’ recent redistricting process.…

Brandon Watts is pictured here, lying on the ground, injured after a run-in with police while being evicted from Zuccotti Park. There has been a coordinated crackdown against protesters in cities across the country.
An elderly woman was pepper-sprayed in the face; the scene of unresisting, supine students at UC Davis being pepper-sprayed by phalanxes of riot police went viral online; images proliferated of young women – targeted seemingly for their gender – screaming, dragged by the hair by police in riot gear; and the pictures of a young man, stunned and bleeding profusely from the head, emerged in the …
