Why Cutting Defense Spending Doesn’t Keep Me Up At Night

Well the real reason is that I’m usually exhausted. But #2 on the list is all of the wasteful spending at DOD. The Office of Management and Budget recently completed a scorecard showing 23 of 24 agencies are on their way to being able to pass fiscal audits. DOD is the one failure. Truthout explains the consequences.
After working on many qui tam whistleblower DoD lawsuits to return contractors’ ill-gotten gains to the federal government, I have learned that defense contractors and the DoD actually benefit from fiscal chaos because it makes it very hard to …

Submitted by Mike Loburgio
Emma Sullivan’s Tweet after seeing Kansas Governor Sam Brownback address an event got her in trouble with her school.
“Just made mean comments at gov brownback and told him he sucked, in person #heblowsalot”
On Tuesday, Sullivan was called to her principal’s office and told that the tweet had been flagged by someone on Brownback’s staff and reported to organizers of the Youth in Government program.
The principal “laid into me about how this was unacceptable and an embarrassment,” Sullivan said. “He said I had created this huge controversy and everyone was up in arms about …

Bryan Fischer: Watch Out For Muslim Turkeys!
The American Family Association’s Bryan Fischer warns us that every butterball turkey in America has been blessed by a Muslim prayer. That’s right, Allah is involved with your Thanksgiving meal.
I want to talk a little bit about Butterball turkeys. And I want to let you know [that] every single Butterball turkey sold in the United States of America has been sacrificed to Allah.
Every single turkey that Butterball sells has been ritually slaughtered according to Islamic practice and has had an Islamic prayer prayed over that bird while it is being slaughtered.

Alice Brock was Arlo Guthrie’s inspiration based on what happened on Thanksgiving day, 1965. It became a 1967 song and a 1969 move. Sing along, and you’ll know what to do the next time there is a draft for an illegal, immoral war.

Liberaland Turns 4
I knew it was sometime around Thanksgiving that I started this site on a lark (a computer would have been more productive haha). I didn’t know if I’d like doing it or if I’d ever do it again. But here we are, about to unveil the next version of Liberaland early in the new year. I went into the archives and discovered the first post was about the Jena 6. Thank you for being part of our community. We’re just getting started.…

This Romney ad has already come under scrutiny for “intentionally” taking President Obama out of context. There may be an even more egregious offense, however. Democratic strategist Tad Devine says he’s shocked to see imagery of a black church in the ad, an attempt to invoke Obama’s former controversial pastor.
The ad, Romney’s first of the campaign, is “clearly an attempt to bring back Rev. Wright and race,” Devine tweeted…
“It appears to be a congregation of African-American people,” Devine told The Hill. “In the first scene there are no white people at all, in the second … it is …

An historic transgender equal rights bill was signed in Massachusetts.
Governor Deval Patrick today signed H.3810, “An Act Relative To Gender Identity,” historic legislation to legally protect transgender individuals from discrimination in housing, education, employment and credit. The new law, signed at the State House today, also provides additional civil rights and protections from hate crimes.
“No individual should face discrimination because of who they are,” said Governor Patrick. “This legislation gives Massachusetts the necessary tools to stop hate crimes against transgender people and to treat others fairly. I am proud to sign it.”…
