Michele Bachmann Gets Facts Wrong In Her Own Autobiography

df4a8238115b666f451290b3ffd8b966

Michele Bachmann’s autobiography has been fact-check by Gawker.

  • Bachmann says her first run for state senate began organically—she was drafted to run on the spot after speaking up at a nominating convention. “I was just doing my duty as a citizen, speaking out. It was like that wonderful Norman Rockwell painting from the forties, Freedom of Speech, in which an earnest man speaks out at a town meeting, politely but firmly.” (It’s not every day you read people actually openly claiming to be like a heroic character from a Rockwell painting.) The weird thing about that spontaneous Rockwellian moment …

Supercommitee Announces It can’t Reach Agreement On Debt Reduction

    111120_hensarling_murray_ap_328

Panel co-chairs Patty Murray and Jeb Hensarling released a statement:

“After months of hard work and intense deliberations, we have come to the conclusion today that it will not be possible to make any bipartisan agreement available to the public before the committee’s deadline.

“Despite our inability to bridge the committee’s significant differences, we end this process united in our belief that the nation’s fiscal crisis must be addressed and that we cannot leave it for the next generation to solve. We remain hopeful that Congress can build on this committee’s work and can find a way to tackle …

Herman Cain Thanked The Lord His Doctor Wasn’t A Muslim

    herman-cain-1117_rdax_676x451

Speaking at The Holy Land Experience, a Christian theme park in Florida, Herman Cain recounts the scare he had when he thought his doctor might be Muslim.

Cain speaks for nearly a half an hour and despite a couple fleeting “999″ mentions, keeps his speech to topics of faith and his recent battle with cancer. He begins with a story about how he knew he would survive when he discovered that his physician was named “Dr. Lord,” that the hospital attendant’s name was “Grace” and that the incision made on his chest during the surgery would be in the shape …

Romney Suggests He Destroyed Government Records To Avoid Opposition Research

In an interview with the Nashua Telegraph, Mitt Romney defends destroying government records as a way to keep them out of the hands of his opponents.

ROMNEY: Well, I think in government we should follow the law. And there has never been an administration that has provided to the opposition research team, or to the public, electronic communications. So ours would have been the first.

Michelle Obama And Jill Biden Booed By NASCAR Fans

You would think the conservatives who love NASCAR would also love the Joining Forces project that helps military families. But even though Michelle Obama and Jill Biden were there to promote such a worthy cause, not to play politics, the crowd couldn’t help itself.

The AP reports that they were, however, given a much warmer reception and a standing ovation at the pre-race meeting with the drivers.

The boos are at 1:38 in:

The Conservative Email Political Rumor Mill

One chain email lies about Medicare premiums going up 2 1/2 times during the next two years. But that’s just one of many, where the right wing junk mail political rumor operation thrives.

Will Americans be subjected to international gun-control laws under a new U.N. treaty signed by Hillary Rodham Clinton? Is the president honoring Jane Fonda as one of the “women of the century”? Was suspected Fort Hood shooter Maj. Nidal Hasan an adviserto the Obama administration?

Like the Medicare story, these claims are demonstrably false, too. Nevertheless, they are popular on the thriving underground e-mail circuit, a …

Rick Perry Would End Civilian Control Of The Military

    Submitted By Ron

Speaking at the Family Leader forum in Iowa, Rick Perry said it’s time for civilians stop running the military.

PERRY: There is a time and a place for us to intervene, and intervene militarily. But when we intervene militarily, we best make the decision on how we are going to win and how we are going to win convincingly and quickly, send those young men and women with the equipment to win. Don’t let some congressman sitting in an air-conditioned office in Washington DC deciding what the rules of engagement are. … And for us …

    Predict The Newt Surge

    Meet Newt 5.preview

    by Stuart Shapiro

Herman Cain has made his predictable descent in the polls.  And the one who profits is former Speaker Newt Gingrich.  Gingrich follows Rep. Bachmann, Governor Perry, and Cain as the official alternative to the flip-flopping former governor of Massachusetts. Is Gingrich doomed to follow in the footsteps of Romney’s other rivals.  Greg Sargent is (to say the least) skeptical.

…it’s highly unlikely that anyone who worked with Newt Gingrich when he was Speaker would want him anywhere near the White House. As detailed in many places, but perhaps most memorably by David Maraniss and Michael …
