U.S. District Judge Richard Gergel blocked parts of South Carolina’s immigration law saying it’s the federal government’s job to do what the state was attempting to do.
The three sections of the law Gergel struck down deal with making it a felony to transport, conceal or protect a person trying unlawfully enter the U.S.; allowing local law enforcement to detain any person they believe is in the country illegally; and making it illegal for an adult to fail to carry their immigration papers.
