Bush 41 Backing Romney

President George H. W. Bush has come out for Mitt Romney for president.
“I think Romney is the best choice for us,” former President Bush told the Houston Chronicle this week. “I like Perry, but he doesn’t seem to be going anywhere; he’s not surging forward.”
Bush said he had known Romney for many years and also knew his father, George Romney, a former Republican governor of Michigan who ran for president in 1968.
Bush said he supported Romney because of his “stability, experience, principles. He’s a fine person,” he said. “I just think he’s mature and reasonable – not …

Congress is looking at cutting Supplemental Security Income for children. It must not, as Special Olympics Chairman and CEO argues:
SI is not glamorous. But it is necessary. It’s a critical lifeline for children with severe disabilities and their families. What’s at stake in cutting it is nothing less than our core values — not to mention our nation’s commitment to providing a full quality of life to those who face the most significant challenges.
Consider Sarah, a young girl born with a rare brain disorder, lobar holoprosencephaly. This is painful and tough. It has hindered her physical and …

Now that the United States military is gone Iraq may well descend into chaos.
A series of bombings hit Baghdad on Thursday, killing at least 63 people in the first big assault attack on Iraq’s capital since a sectarian crisis erupted within its government just days after the U.S. troop withdrawal.
The apparently coordinated bombings were the first sign of a violent backlash against Shi’ite Muslim Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki’s move to sideline two Sunni Muslim rivals, raising the risk of a relapse into the sort of sectarian bloodletting that drove Iraq to the brink of civil war a …

Congressman Jim Sensenbrenner of Wisconsin, who is not exactly petite, was overheard insulting the First Lady‘s appearance (h/t Global Grind).
Our source, a Democratic operative who heard the whole thing, said he was “very loud”. Sensenbrenner was overheard saying that after buying all their “crap” (his word) a woman approached him and praised first lady Michelle Obama. He told the woman that Michelle should practice what she preaches — “she lectures us on eating right while she has a large posterior herself.”
Sensenbrenner’s office says he will reach out to the White House to apologize.…

Sarah Palin went after the Obamas for sending out Christmas cards that don’t do enough to promote Christmas.
The card, seen above, was created for the Obama family by L.A. artist and designer Mark Matuszak. It features an image of Bo, the Obama family dog, in front of a fireplace in the White House library with a poinsettia and other decorations. The card, which makes no direct mention of Christmas and doesn’t feature a Christmas tree, states: “From our family to yours, may your holidays shine with the light of the season.”
Palin told Fox News that she found it …

Mitt Romney was asked on a Boston radio show if Onyango Obama, who was arrested this fall for drunken driving, should be deported. The answer: Yes!
“Well, if the laws of the United States say he should be deported, and I presume they do, then of course we should follow those laws,” Romney said. “And the answer is ‘yes.’”
…According to the Associated Press: “Obama initially was held without bail on a detainer from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials on allegations he violated an order to return to Kenya 20 years ago. He was subsequently released and ordered to …

Ron Paul was not happy to be asked repeatedly about old newsletters published under his name, but with content, he says, he did not create, of which his was not aware and which he disavows. He removed his microphone when Gloria Borger noted some of the articles were “quite incendiary.”
“It’s been going on 20 years that I’ve been pestered about this and CNN does it every time,” Paul said, clearly agitated by the line of questioning. “When are you going to wear yourself out?”
The Texas congressman said that the articles – which did not carry a byline – were …

Chuck Todd pressed Mitt Romney on his belief in the individual mandate as a conservative concept. Romney backed himself int a corner saying states have two options: emergency care paid for by the government and taxpayers, or an individual mandate. Tommy Christopher has good analysis.
Todd asked Romney to explain a major flaw in his state-by-state approach. “Are you concerned, though, that that could create, and I know this is an awkward term to use, sanctuary states, where some states are going to just cover more people than other states? Massachusetts versus a Mississippi, say?”
This is where Romney …
