A Tennessee man pleaded guilty to making profanity-laced phone calls to House Majority Leader Eric Cantor’s office.
Glendon Swift entered the plea at a federal hearing Tuesday in Knoxville. Swift changed his plea to guilty in return for prosecutors recommending a 13-month sentence. Sentencing is set April 4…
An FBI affidavit shows the 64-year-old Swift left two messages at the Republican leader’s suburban Richmond office on Oct. 27, threatening to “destroy” the congressman and making derogatory references to Cantor being Jewish.…

The House voted against extending the payroll tax cut for two months.
House leaders demand a one-year extension. The chamber voted along party lines, 229-193, in rejecting the Senate deal and calling for negotiators to be appointed to broker a final agreement.
Failure to extend the payroll tax cut would cost the average household roughly $1,000 a year.…

In spite of Michele Bachmann saying “my facts are accurate” during the December 15 debate, she got a bunch of things wrong on Meet the Press Sunday.
Muslim Men Kicked Off Plane Suing Airline
Submitted by William
Two Muslim men thrown off a plane in May are suing Delta Airlines and one of its regional carriers.
The suit was filed Monday in federal court against Delta and Atlantic Southeast Airlines Inc.
It said Masudur Rahman and Mohamed Zaghloul went through several security checks. It claims the pilot wanted them off the plane because he thought their presence would make other passengers uncomfortable. The men are described in the suit as having beards and “traditional Arabic clothing.” It seeks compensation for losses and injuries as well as punitive damages.
Atlantic Southeast and Delta issued a …

Submitted by JoeNHLiberal
President Obama’s approval rating is up to 49%, a five point rise since November.
A CNN/ORC International Poll out Tuesday also indicates that the partisan battle over extending the payroll tax cut may be partially responsible for the jump in the president’s numbers.
According to the survey, 49% of Americans approve of the job Obama’s doing in the White House, up five points from last month, with 48% saying they disapprove, down six points from mid-November. The 49% approval rating is the president’s highest since May, when his number hit 54% thanks to a bounce following the …

If Republicans reject a two-month payroll tax break tonight, which is likely, they’ll be reversing themselves from what they favored in 2009.
Just under two years ago, House Republicans, including some of the party’s more conservative members, were arguing that a two-month payroll tax holiday would “effectively stimulate” the economy.
How we got from point A to point B is a reflection of the reversal that has occurred, in a short period of time, in the political dynamics of economic recovery.…

If a police officer pulls you over in Prosper, Texas, it might be to reward you.
…the North Texas police department has been doling out $10 gift cards this week to recognize good driving, NBC-DFW reports.
It’s a classic carrot or stick scenario: the police department has chosen to reward drivers for proper seat belt use or observation of the speed limit, instead of just punishing drivers for transgressions.

New Jersey Governor Chris Christie believes President Obama had a filibuster-proof majority for two years. Tommy Christopher does the math to show it’s not true.
It takes 60 votes to overcome a filibuster in the US Senate, which is now the default to get pretty much anything done…the Democrats didn’t reach that 60-seat threshold in the Senate until Sen. Al Franken (D-MN) was sworn in on July 7, 2009. They lost that majority upon the swearing-in of Sen. Scott Brown (R-MA) on Feb. 4, 2010, just under seven months later. While state politician Christie can possibly be forgiven such an …

Lori Berenson, who spent 15 years in Peruvian prisons, accused of being an accomplice to terrorism, is being allowed to visit her family in New York for the holidays.
Lori Berenson admits helping Tupac Amaru rent a safe house where authorities seized a cache of weapons after a shootout with the rebels. She insists she didn’t know guns were stored there and says she never joined the group.
In 1996, a military court of hooded judges convicted Berenson of treason and sentenced her to life in prison. After U.S. pressure, she was retried by a civilian court.
Berenson was accused …

Pat Robertson objected to Saturday Night Live’s sketch where Jesus tells Tim Tebow to “take it down a notch.”
“There’s an anti-Christian bigotry that is just disgusting and I think Saturday Night Live did a parody of that, had Jesus come in,” Robertson fumed. “If this had been a Muslim country and they had done that, and had Muhammad doing that stuff, you would have found bombs being thrown off!”
“And bodies on the street!” interjected co-anchor Terry Meeuwsen. “And bodies on the street!” Robertson repeated. “And we think it’s okay.”
But it’s okay to attack “Muslim” countries, apparently. The …

Sarah Palin told Fox Business’s Eric Bolling that folks are always telling her they want her to run for president and it’s not too late.
“Any chance we can see you making a play, even after Iowa or New Hampshire?” Bolling asked. “There’s still plenty of time, Governor.”
“You know, it’s not too late for folks to jump in,” Palin replied. “And I don’t know, you know, it — who knows what will happen in the future?”…
