That’s why Ron Paul is now being viciously attacked by Republicans. (via Political Wire)

“Newt Gingrich said Mr. Paul, of Texas, was a ‘protest’ candidate, and that he could not vote for the congressman if he won the party’s nomination… Rick Santorum warned conservative voters to carefully study Mr. Paul’s record… A week before the Iowa caucuses open the Republican nominating contest, the candidates are in a final push to win over undecided voters. With Mr. Paul facing attacks, an army of his supporters began arriving to bolster an aggressive ground operation and persuade voters across Iowa to …

Rick Perry Becomes Even More Anti-Abortion

t1larg.rick-perry-profile.t1larg

In the middle of a presidential race, Rick Perry has suddenly hardened his stance on abortion.

Previously, Perry had not opposed the procedure in cases of rape or incest, or when the mother’s life was threatened.

Responding to a question about the change in position, Perry said, “You’re seeing a transformation.”

Perry told the crowd at his campaign stop that the decision came after watching a documentary on abortion produced by former Arkansas governor and 2008 presidential candidate Mike Huckabee.

And it comes during a struggling presidential campaign.…

Same-Sex Couples Pay Thousands More In Taxes

n_gay_wedding_woes.cnnmoney.576x324

Because the federal government won’t recognize gay marriages, same-sex couples pay as much as $6000 more every year according to a CNN Money report.

The imbalance persists despite increasing acceptance of gay marriage as a legal right. More than 12 states now grant full or partial marriage rights to same-sex couples, and a recent Gallup poll showed — for the first time — that a majority of Americans favor gay marriage.

But not the federal government, which is constrained by the 1996 Defense of Marriage Act. Even as more same-sex couples are able to file jointly at the state …

How Newt Gingrich Could Vote For Barack Obama

gingrich_paul

If Ron Paul is the nominee.

Gingrich, in an interview Tuesday on CNN, assailed Paul as not serious and unelectable; Gingrich said the Texas congressman must answer for a series of newsletters published by his office that contained racist and anti-Semitic language.

“He’s got to come up with some very straight answers to get somebody to take him seriously. Would I be willing to listen to him? Sure. I think the choice of Ron Paul or Barack Obama would be a very bad choice for America,” Gingrich aid on CNN’s “Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer” when asked if he …

No Parade Planned For U.S. Soldiers Returning From Iraq. Should There Be?

nj-troops-come-home

The Pentagon says there have been no requests for homecoming parades.

Officials in New York and Washington say they would be happy to help stage a big celebration, but Pentagon officials say they haven’t been asked to plan one.

With tens of thousands of U.S. troops still fighting a bloody war in Afghanistan, anything that looks like a big victory celebration could be seen as unseemly and premature, some say.

“It’s going to be a bit awkward to be celebrating too much, given how much there is going on and how much there will be going on in Afghanistan,” …

Republicans Now Eating Their Not-So-Young

romney300

John Hawkins of Right Wing News makes the case against Mitt Romney:

Mitt Romney was a moderate governor in Massachusetts with an unimpressive record of governance, who left office with an approval rating in the thirties, and whose signature achievement was a Hurricane Katrina style disaster for the state. Since that’s the case, it’s fair to ask what a Republican who’s not conservative and can’t even carry his own state brings to the table for GOP primary voters. The answer is always the same; Mitt Romney is supposed to be “the most electable” candidate. This is a baffling argument …

Ben Nelson To Retire

ben_nelson3

Democratic Nebraska Senator Ben Nelson is retiring at the end of 2012.

News of Nelson’s retirement is especially tough for Democrats, given that outside groups poured over $1 million in ads on his behalf to shore up his standing in the state. The ads were also aired in hopes of convincing Nelson to run for a third term.

Republicans have aggressively targeted Nelson this year, and outside GOP groups had already begun pouring money into the state, hitting him over his vote for President Obama’s health care law.

Nelson was considered the most vulnerable Senate Democrat running in 2012.…
