Obama The Conservtive In Upcoming Race

ej-dionne-114x80

E. J. Dionne, Jr. explains:

Obama is defending a tradition that sees government as an essential actor in the nation’s economy, a guarantor of fair rules of competition, a countervailing force against excessive private power, a check on the inequalities that capitalism can produce, and an instrument that can open opportunity for those born without great advantages.

Today’s Republicans cast the federal government as an oppressive force, a drag on the economy and an enemy of private initiative.

Republicans are running on a radical, anti-government platform. Rick Perry says he wants to make Washington, D.C. “inconsequential.” Mitt Romney falsely …

RIP Lynn Samuels 1942-2011

2699452815_e2e3babf3c

One of our great progressive voices has been silenced. Lynn Samuels wasn’t just a great broadcaster, she was a wonderful, kind person. She knew the secret of doing great radio: Be yourself. To her credit, she let no consultant or program director change her. David Hinckley sums it up:

On the radio, Samuels was exactly what much of the country thinks New York sounds like. She had a city accent she never tried to hide or soften, even when her bosses suggested it would prevent her from ever getting a radio job outside the city.

“This is who I …

Newt Gingrich Compares Failing To Get On The Virginia Ballot To Pearl Harbor

Newt-Gingrich-close-up-1-cropped-proto-custom_28

As an historian, surely Newt Gingrich knows that not getting on a state’s ballot is just like the attack on Pearl Harbor by the Japanese.

“Newt and I agreed that the analogy is December 1941,” campaign director Michael Krull said in a message posted to Facebook. “We have experienced an unexpected set-back, but we will re-group and re-focus with increased determination, commitment and positive action. Throughout the next months there will be ups and downs; there will be successes and failures; there will be easy victories and difficult days – but in the end we will stand victorious.”…

Michele Bachmann Confronted By Gay Robot

A man in the guise of a gay robot confronted Michele Bachmann in Iowa City.

“I’m a gay robot. I oppose Bachmann’s position on gays, whether they are human or robot. “

He was booed and asked to leave the restaurant where the confrontation took place.

…he called himself “roboprof,” he wouldn’t give his real name. Though he did admit to being the same gay robot who heckled Bill Clinton back in 2007…That gay robot was identified as Kembrew McLeod, a communications professor at the University of Iowa

Emergency Rooms Flooded With The Mentally Ill As States Cut Services

thumbnail1

Especially around the holidays, it’s difficult for those who have no one to help and nowhere to go.

Across the country, doctors…are facing a spike in psychiatric emergencies – attempted suicide, severe depression, psychosis – as states slash mental health services and the country’s worst economic crisis since the Great Depression takes its toll.

This trend is taxing emergency rooms already overburdened by uninsured patients who wait until ailments become acute before seeking treatment.

“These are people without a previous psychiatric history who are coming in and telling us they’ve lost their jobs, they’ve lost sometimes their homes, they can’t …

Federal Court Throws Out Birther Suit

obama-birth-certificate

Submtted by MrRight

Birthers who filed suit the day President Obama was inaugurated don’t have the right to sue as they can’t show they were harmed, ruled the 9th Circuit.

The 9th Circuit judges noted at the hearing as well as in their ruling Thursday that aside from the plaintiffs’ lack of standing, the challenge of Obama’s legitimacy to serve as president is a political question beyond any federal court’s power to decide. Only Congress can impeach a president, and any citizen petition for a common-law writ to initiate an inquiry into the legitimacy of the president would have …

Submitted by William

Carl Clark says that back then, ”It wouldn’t look good to say one black man saved the ship.”

…Clark, 95, will be awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with the Combat Distinguished Device on Jan. 17, U.S. Rep. Anna Eshoo announced Thursday.

Clark was serving as an E-6 Steward First Class aboard the USS Aaron Ward when Japanese kamikazes attacked the destroyer near Okinawa in May 1945…

Six kamikazes hit the destroyer, with the blast from one plane so powerful that Clark said it blew him “all the way across the ship.”

Though he suffered …

Holidays Vs. Commandments

untitled

by Gabe Berman
Gabe is the author of Live Like A Fruit Fly

Christmas  is as good a time as any to ask, “What would Jesus do?”

Or better yet, “What would Jesus want you to do?”

Would he want you to support politicians who claim to be people of “faith” as they pass judgment, lie, steal, kill, refuse to forgive and vote to make the rich richer and the poor poorer?

I think not.

“How many observes Christ’s birthday! How few his precepts! O! ’tis easier to keep holidays than commandments.” – Benjamin Franklin

Happy Holidays.…

37,000 Domains Desert Go Daddy Over SOPA

thumbnail

When Go Daddy appeared on the official list of those opposing the Stop Online Piracy Act, customers departed in droves.

The internet responded by staging a wide-spread boycott where people would switch their domains to another registrar, which Go Daddy initially dismissed as having little impact on their business. Now it seems that assessment wasn’t entirely accurate.

Although Go Daddy reversed their stance on SOPA, it wasn’t before 37,000 domains were transfer off of its service, according to information reported by The Domains. The report indicates that over 15,000 domains were transferred off Thursday and another 21,054 domains on Friday. …
