Following last night’s formalities at the Republican National Convention in Tampa, Florida, Mitt Romney jetted off today to meet with Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal (R) to survey the flood damage left in the wake of Hurricane Isaac.  During the visit he stressed he wanted to learn the effects of this kind of disaster on the residents.  While speaking in front of a group of journalists, Romney is reported to have asked where the water came from: “Did it come from the sky, or the rivers, or the ocean?”.

I submit that when your house, your car, or your business is under water, it doesn’t matter.  It will matter to engineers and FEMA as they look at the aftermath of the flooding and find better ways to deal with these events, but to residents right now, it doesn’t matter.  I’m not sure why it matters to Mitt Romney, either, since his running mate, Paul Ryan, attempted to cut exactly the relief that’s reaching our citizens in the Gulf right now, thanks to President Obama.
