The “Single Biggest Story” Of 2012
No, it wasn’t the election.
The Huffington Post’s Dan Froomkin takes a big swipe at “the mainstream media” today, accusing all involved of having “bungled the single biggest story of the 2012 campaign” — “Namely, the radical right-wing, off-the-rails lurch of the Republican Party, both in terms of its agenda and its relationship to the truth.”
Froomkin hooks his piece to the arguments of Thomas Mann and Norman Ornstein, who spent the 2012 campaign making this very point and combatting the “false equivalency” the media has created between Republicans and Democrats for the sake of “balance.” In fact, Mann and Ornstein argue, the Republicans have become far more conservative than Democrats have become liberal, redefining the center. More to the point, some Republicans have lied and manipulated facts.
