NC Man Fatally Shoots Brother; Thought He Was An Intruder

Wilmington police say Ali (Al) Dastmalchi, 65, fired a handgun into the chest of his younger brother, Vahid Dastmalchi, believing he was someone else trying to break into their house last Friday…

A news release said Ali Dastmalchi heard the sound of breaking glass and went to the front door to investigate. That’s where he claims he saw “someone lunging at him with a spiked object in his hand.”

A 911 call obtained by ABC affiliate WWAY features Ali Dastmalchi saying his brother tried to use a “garden tool” as a weapon and charged at him. That’s when he claims he fired his gun.

But when he turned the porch light on, he said he realized it was his own kin.
