Pat Boone came on radio with me Thursday night to express his disgust for Saturday Night Live’s parody of “God’s Not Dead 2” in which he appears.  He called for government to crack down on blasphemy.

COLMES: Would you like the FCC to declare a show like Saturday Night Live or any other show can’t do that kind of humor?

BOONE: You cannot do blasphemy, yes.

COLMES: You would like the FCC to make that deceleration?

BOONE: Yes!

COLMES: And be punished and fined in some way if they did that kind of humor?

BOONE: I sure do, I do. And I would say at least 90% of the American public would say “Yes, I agree.” And if the public doesn’t have any say about it, it’s the public airwaves.

COLMES: So what should be the punishment then if the FCC says we’re not going to allow this, what would be the proper punishment?

BOONE: Lose license, just like any other law. If you disobey the law, you’re punished for it. And you lose the ability to keep doing it.

COLMES: Well, the show doesn’t get a license, but broadcast stations do. So it’s the stations that would suffer.

BOONE: It’s the network, or whoever is responsible for the shows there should be regulations that prohibit blasphemy. It’s hard to determine exactly what obscenity is, what blasphemy is. But to call God by some profane name, I think that anybody with a rational mind would agree that’s blasphemy.

COLMES: So for calling God a “boob man,” there should be a punishment for that, or “God is gay.”

BOONE: I certainly do.

Boone also continues to push the myth that President Obama was not born in the United States:

BOONE: Detective Mike Zullo in Arizona, who is part of Sheriff Arpaio’s posse, was sent to Hawaii…I have seen all the data he came back with. It is documented, it is in a sworn 15-20 page affidavit, and a lawman does not swear on the authenticity of what he has presented without knowing that it is accurate. And he has all the accurate proof, and when he presents in a press conference in Arizona, the press just yawns and turns away.

Pastafarians will fight Boone on this to the last noodle

It’s comedy, you old has-been gas bag. This guy pops up on my TV from time to time in a Swiss America commercial. Of course, it is based on some ominous prediction about the economy, filled with doom and gloom. First, I give him the finger then, I change the channel. I refuse to listen to him lie to Americans while he lines his pockets.

  • ~~so many nights I’d sit by my window, wondering why Daddy is so batshit crazy~~

  • DrKMcK

    Oh Geez. What an ass.

  • ABell1724

So, what we need to do is abolish the first amendment? Freedom of speech/press would have to be revoked in order to accomplish what he is suggesting. The moment we do this, we cease to be the U.S.A.

People have a right to say what they think–even if you don’t agree with what they say. If you don’t like it, keep walking/turn the channel.

Boone can say anything he wants…..I think if god is as vast as what Christians sometimes want to believe, it will survive. If Jesus was here, he would find that people like Boone who support little that would get millions of people out of poverty a much bigger form of insult…..after all there are over 3,000 times in the Bible that say take care of the poor!

      • ABell1724

        Agreed.

      • The Original Just Me

Pat used to be able to sing Pretty Good Song. Now Days he just warbles in incoherency.

        • clemans

as a singer I am fine with him, although him being batshit crazy republican long before I knew the other republicans were also has turned me off his music ……he was a hunk and a good singer in his day…..he just should have left religion and corrupt politics at home.

I mean he has to right to say what he wants, sadly when it comes to record sales, I also had the right to not buy his records.

          morning

          • The Original Just Me

A Mighty Fine day to you. It is raining, raining, raining here. Pat was a Good entertainer and at his time he fit in quite well as Mr. Squeaky Clean. But old age has not been kind to him.

            • clemans

I started disliking him decades ago when he was batshit early on…..I saw his rhetoric as being bad for the nation, but that he had the right to say what he wanted.

              • The Original Just Me

In the fifties, his Super Clean Image worked well and did him Good. He just forgot to change with the Times. But Conservatism is staying the same and Progressive is moving on with the New.

                • clemans

you are a tiny bit older than me……I was a baby in the 50’s. smiles

                  • The Original Just Me

I do believe I’ve got you a day or two on age. I’m 71, born in the Olden days 1944. Some day i will grow up but hopefully not for awhile. :+)

            • clemans

sorry about the rain, sunshine, blues skies, barking dogs at active lawn mowers.

              • The Original Just Me

I went over to Gooding yesterday, about 80 miles away, to help a elderly woman friend of my brothers. I had to use her little backhoe to dig up a waterline. Now i have to go back in the rain, climb down into a muddy hole and fix an underground electric wire that we did not know was there. It has to be repaired because it goes to her well pump and she has no water now. She is 70 and takes care of her 100 year old mother. Why Me Lord ? :+(

                • A good deed never goes unpunished…uh, I mean rewarded. Seriously though, good on you.

take soap and shower all in one…..

                  “The question before
the human race is, whether the God of nature shall govern the world by his own laws, or whether priests and kings shall rule it by fictitious
                  miracles”?

                  — John Adams, letter to Thomas Jefferson, June 20, 1815

  • skinnercitycyclist

Wow. So Pat Boone becomes even more irrelevant.

  • The Original Just Me

I know that Boone’s Marbles are rolling around loose in his head now days, but he needs to learn support for our Constitution. The First Amendment CLEARLY States that the government will NOT make any law that restricts or endorses any Religion. Sorry Pat but it’s back to your Happy Room for you.

    • InChains

Eh, people like him hate the First Amendment anyway. And pretty much all of the Constitution that isn’t the 2nd Amendment.
They’re still whining about the 14th Amendment, after all…

  • Joseph Arechavala

Funnily enough, this is what Sharia-loving Islamists believe too, Pat…

    • InChains

The only difference between the fundie Sharia extremists and the fundie Christian extremists is that the Muslim ones aren’t trying to scam their followers out of all their money.

  • veggiedude

Didn’t he appear on SNL in all leather outfit?

  • Jill Dew

Explain to me again why anyone cares what an entertainer (look up the meaning of the word) thinks about politics?

  • mercury613

The same First Amendment that guarantees Boone’s right to freely exercise his religion also guarantees my right to criticize his religion. Sounds like he needs a basic civcs class.

    • InChains

Remember that people like Boone think that the 1st Amendment only applies to their specific brand of Christianity, just like they think “freedom of speech” means it’s illegal to criticize them for anything they say.

  • Daelda

Nothing should be so “sacred” that it cannot be discussed,
debated, dismissed and, yes, even defamed! There should be NO
blasphemy laws! Complaining about “blasphemy” is, on its face,
idiocy. Every religion on the planet is “blasphemous” towards the
other religions. Each religion claims to be the “true” religion,
and that the other religions are “false” religions. So why
complain when an atheist says your religion is false, but not when
the church down the street says the same thing?

  • Daelda

I wonder what Pat would say is an appropriate fine for blasphemy against The Flying Spaghetti Monster? (Sauce Be Upon Him).

  • Ron MacDonald

    Pot, meet crack.

  • InChains

Gives some credence to the Demiurge idea the Gnostics have, eh?

    • Suzanne McFly

I won’t go that far, but sometimes I definitely have to stop and consider what the hell is going on.
