I am a pro-life Catholic who is a strong supporter of the Democratic Party. From my point of view abortion is even more troubling than plain murder. The fetus depends on the mother to develop and grow. It is fully submissive and has no way to defend itself. It has not committed any acts of violence and it is at the mercy of the one who carries it. Abortion troubles me even more than murder does but I an fine with being pro-life in my own private way. I don’t need the gov’t to legislate what I believe onto others who sadly share a different view. This is the one area in the Democratic Party I don’t like. I do realize that people would get them anyway and I can understand the pro-choice argument. I just think its arrogant to play God and that this is something that people may deeply regret when they pass over to heaven, It is sad that Tiller was shot and killed and it was wrong.
I’m not changing religions since I am very fond of the priests in my parish. They are good people and 95% of the time I agree with what they say. On a national level I sometimes hear things from Catholic leaders that make me cringe. I just believe that religions should not try to influence people to vote a certain way. I am pro-life but I don’t feel a need for the government to legislate my opinions and beliefs onto others and to use that issue to sway voters. Across the board of all religions I believe tolerance is important. I believe all religions have value all opinions as long as they are heinous should be respected.
What i mean is things like how the Catholic Church will not marry someone who is divorced and how the Archbishop is acting about Obama giving a speech at the commencement at Notre Dame and receiving an honorary degree. God is certainly not outdated. I am extremely faithful to God. What I am saying is the Catholic Church and some other Christian churches have put a bunch of BS rules in in after God to “govern” the way Catholic’s think. I feel those Christians who care about people less fortunate than them and those Christians who do not hate others for having the audacity to disagree with them are the model of what God wants in humanity.
The only reason these people want “smaller government” is so they don’t get caught doing illegal things. I don’t know any of my friends who talk about smaller government. And to tell you the truth I felt like the government was in my life helluva lot more during the Bush Administration than it is right now. I am a proud Catholic; however, the current Republican Party reminds me of the aspect of Catholicism I can’t stand. That rigidity and the clinging to ideas long outdated and preaching that it’s what the “mainstream” believes. Thats a bunch of BS. If by mainstream they mean those ring-wing whacko’s in Texas who want to secede than fine their right but people in the Northeast want intelligent government which fights for the middle class rather than CEO’s and mega million and billionaires. It couldn’t be more clear right now that the only people these Republicans care about is themselves and how much money they can accumulate to satisfy their fragile little ego’s.
