If just the private insurance regulations pass, they’ll go under anyway even without a public option.
Requiring health insurance companies to cover a person with a pre-existing medical condition would put most of them out of business.
It would be like buying used cars you don’t want with pre-existing mechanical problems that would need major investment monies to keep them running with most of them costing way more than what they sold for.
Because of the increased claim payoffs that would certainly be incurred, it would not be cost affective for a health insurance company to cover someone who needs health coverage that already has a pre-existing illness.
If you take in 600 dollars a month but have pay out 1500 dollars a month, that is not a good business model. Most companies would go broke in that situation.
A health insurance organization would need to pass along the increased costs to its current customers to cover the mandatory payouts on the (we know this is going to cost us a bundle) sick guy.
Most insured folks don’t like what they are paying now. I believe most would probably drop or be forced to drop their coverage due to increased personal rates or increased employee company coverage rates, eventually leaving the health companies with no one to insure.
Thus ending the days of private health care insurance.
Even without a pubic health option, if the forced acceptance coverage (not too many dems or reps seem opposed to this one) on a pre-existing illness is approved, Americans can say bye bye to private health organizations that already control what doctors you see and medical procedures approved (read your contract). These private health insurance companies will not be able to resolve their added payout costs without a substantial customer rate increase.
If forced by the government to accept and keep clients they normally should and would reject, this alone will most likely over time, exceed their factored loss cap from increased claims leading to company failure.
Private insurance companies love you…. as long as you don’t submit a claim.
Well at least the older folks will still have their public run socialized government health care program, Medicare.

We pay taxes for all sorts of things not just building military bombs that will end all life on this planet.
We have a lot of socialist programs that we all pay for with taxes. Not all work as good as others but like universal health insurance, most of the time it's better than nothing.
I think the government could save us (you & me) some money/taxes by stopping wars we do not belong in. Legalizing pot and prostitution is also a good way to cut taxes. Why fight and pay for something that millions of Americans want and will do anyway?
