Cornrows as well as dredlocks have been in existance for literally thousands of years. Cornrows are a cultural phenomenon arising out of Africa. I’m not sure why a thousands + year old practice would be referred to as looking like “hoodlums”. The hip-hop community has only adopted them for approximately the last 25 years. It does smack of bias to overlook the thousands of years worth of intricately designed corn rows which are a part of african culture, to label this style as “hoodlum”. African Artwork as well as Egyptian artwork that is thousands of years old depict even Royalty with intricately braided hair. “Hoodlum” is hardly appropriate designation for cornrows, whatever color the wearer.
Is the person who pulled this officer off duty and put him at a desk over cornrows a white person? Who is his “superior”? If this dude wants to wear cornrows and it’s a policy that others are wearing them, whats the big deal?
