FOX and CNN are balanced.
Maybe you are old.
I think what you’re daughter was trying to tell you, is that what you see as aping your point of view, is being seen thru by the younger generation, who maybe looking deeper into issues than you are.
It is really hard to reconcile that after 8-years of a GOP led nation, we are in the tank.
We have gone to a war that we were lied to to get into.
Then we were lied to all the way up to the 2006 elections. Then suddenly everything we knew was wrong.
Sounds alot like McCain.
And we were losing this war.
Now, instead of staying the course and liberating these people, bringing them democracy.
We were now locked in a war with Al-Queda, where the hell did they come from. Why Iran of course, not Afghanistan.
And the young men and women continue to die.
And we slowly place the war back into the recesses of our mind, shortly behind a mortgage, car payment, electric, heating oil, phone, cable, internet, second mortgage, college educations for departing chidlren.
And then McCain comes on the scene.
We know his history.
He’s a true American hero. So, what does that mean, here is an honorable man!!!!
Then all you see of him is this man who will do anything to become president of the United States.
He was a prisoner of war…..fought for his country, came home suffering life-long disabilities from his battle to a country-divided. A wife who has suffered a crippling auto-accident.
And what does this honorable man do…he proceeds to leave this woman and move on. And just so happens to marry an heiress to a beer fortune.
As Bob Dylan sarcastically says in IDIOT WIND
“I can’t help it if I’m lucky.”
And now, you watch McCain run a
campaign but really never has a message until he selects another woman, as he runs away fromt he wreck of his campaign, and suddenly becomes the change agent.
But he also wages a campaign that possibly to you seems very normal but to the youngsters possibly contains loads of racial charged statements. And views form men who you know never watched Cosby, or any other showed that failed to offer a conciliatory bridge over the racial divide.
They say that the race is close for many reasons, but mostly they hear the adults talk, the understand that race is the most crucial issue involved in the election.
How else, could adults simply ignore or excuse the many
ways McCain and the right are laying it out for all to see.
And it is blantant.
So it is very funny to the young…but there really isn’t anyone out there showing that view.
Bill O’Reilly, do you think it takes an educated young voter long to see thru that act. Or the axcts that other so-called commentators are making.
They will dance around it and throw out the occasional off-hand comment.
But they won’t really discuss it.
Or relate it to the McCain campaign.
It is like McCain has said….hey who do you want to lead your change.
This Obama fellow, or Me and Miss Polly Purebread….
We won’t even change his message…so………….
And he can’t even say a word about it because if he does, he is playing the race card.
Yet we can throw this very sick strategy on the AMerican people, almost as insidious as the reasons to go to war in Iraq. McCain and the GOP are again trying to pull the wool over our eyes.
Sounds Rovian to me….and someone tell me, how can FOX news pretend to put ROve on the air and pretend he is just a commentator. How come if Hannity can go on daily about OBAMA is a muslim, or he is related to Rev. Wright and has radical affiliations……Why can;t Colmes question him each day about his role in the IRAQ was, or why he can just dismiss congressional attempts to get him to testify about anything.
Now that is Fair and Balanced.
But young people are so stupid they don’t see this.
So they look for someone to tell them the truth or at least present reality in the way they see it.
Because yes the best comedy show you the stumble and the fall…and we laugh at or along with the pain. But it also contains a grain of truth that resonates.
That makes the joke have depth and reach,
Because how else could this honorable man allow his campaign to turn into what it has turned into.
For someone who has professed to putting his country above everything else, he sures looks like a man who would abandon a woman who waited five years locked in her own prison for the brewery heiress.
Like I said he can’t help it if he’s lucky.
and the young men and women keep dying.
Now he offers lame solutions to a problem that will require a major shift within our country.
And he blasts Obama for not offering his viewpoint.
It like FDR in 1931….he wouldn’t give up alot of what he had in mind.
So that his opponent couldn’t counter it.
Well if Obama says anything, you be assure that McCain will certainly be coping it by the next day with a little spin.
McCain didn’t have a clue prior to Palin.
And of course the young didn’t see that.
It just seems that someone who actually applied themselves in college and avoided beer heiresses alogn his way to this moment of destiny might hae alittle more substance than someone as transparent as John McCain.
A man who one moment may tell you that Hillary CLinton is an ugly duckling and then turn around and try to tell you what an insult is to a woman.
And if he realy does know, then doesn’t it make his former comments allthe more indicative of the character the young see.
And as far as National Enquirer and SNL…..I think National Inquirer would sell its soul to be SNL!!!!
Being a liberal or a conservative isn’t the issue in this election…it is about giving a man who has come on the scene with a vision and hasn’t faltered from it.
He has had to play politics but he has done it in a dignified and respectful manner for the most part.
He has grown up in front of us and he has let us see it.
He is now what we made of him and he doesn’t run away from it or apoligize for it.
Now is that character.
He is a black man who goes out each day and commits himself to becomign the president of this country.
And we in white america, have heard the comments that no one wants to talk about. It is like we are having our souls shown to us, what do you really believe.
Do you believe that the best man should win…that this country needs at this time to have the best man possible for the task we face as a nation.
Do we all judge that man on the same criteria because if we do it is very evident to the young which one of the candidates actually seems to get what is going on.
Yes, Obama could have taken Hillary Clinton for a vice president it owuld have been the easy route.
But it would have been very disingenious of him to do so.
Hillary is a valuable element in the coming years but not as a vice-president.
Theere are stateside issues she could be a
very critical player in.
but who does McCain pick…as he walked from the wreckage of his campaign,
He picks a woman…
Isn’t that funny.
But she isn’t ready for the spotlight that is a national election so he tries to destroy the media.
It is the media, not John McCain, sound a lot like George Bush and Karl Rove.
Isn’t it funny to hear Carl Rover criticize the media for this. It is too surreal to believe but Fox NEws serves it up to the young.
And the young crank up the YOUTUBE videos.
And the young men and women keep on dying.
On a lighter note….
Does Obama’s relationship with William Ayres classify him as an expert in terrorism.
Is McCain immune from the hard held positions that have plaqued Rev. Wright. you know those age-related issues.
Or does McCain simply change his belief system like his wives.
What does McCain do when the country crashes….go to Canada!!!!
Joe S.
The Clinton economy was full of steam because Clinton knew what he was doing.
How many economic downturns did we suffer under the Clinton Administration?
I think the right wing has been jealous over the entire computer revolution simply because they didn’t see it coming and weren’t able to take economic advantage of it. Imagine a republican thinking of the model of giving things away for free to bolster economic growth, as in the new models on the internet.
The right wing had to rely on a a botched foreign war, over oil as usual, to make their money and as we all know they are the only ones to have benefitted from it.
As they say, follow the paper trail if you want to know the real cause of anything.
Joe S.
When democracy is used to enable those who are in the upper crust take advantage of those who are the workign class…..like has happened in the last eight years, then it allows for balances.
What you call socialism is just balance.
When FDR saved the country, the right wing was all of over his plan, because it was socialistic and I am sure that, like McCain, there were many repubs out there telling the public that things were good.
There are so many ills that have been created in the last eight years due to the unchecked over-indulgences of the right wing, that it will take more than an man who finished in the bottom five of his class at a military academy to get us out of this.
I’ll take man who has had to rely on his intellect and drive and character to make something of himself. Not a man who had to rely on his father’s name to get him his breaks in life.
Joe S.,
Pat Buchanan is more than just a token conservative.
You need to realize that when someone says that they are something and not something else in the media, it is more than likely that they are more what they say they are not then what they say they are.
For instance, if someone keeps telling you they are Fair and Balanced, it is more than likely that they are anything but.
And if they claim that there is a big liberal media bias, it is more an attack to draw attention away from their glaring unbalances.
It is just a common sense argument but…………….
yes you can make money on this economy.
My advice to anyone is to always go with oil when republicans are in office, you can’t fail;
Although the accompanying war could be a little bit of a distraction, especially if you have young kids and they are addicted to FOx News.
As always Republicans are whining again.
They run the most despicable campaigns but everytime the tables are turned they start whining of media biases or unfair treatment.
I think McCain knows in his heart of hearts that if he was a democrat the same people who are parroting for him would be into him on his vietnam records, past marriage and anyother dirt they could secure.
He must be under a tremendous straing knowing in his heart of hearts that he has sold his soul.
As for Palin, so much for transparent government.
She is to meet with world leaders but she can only meet with certain segments of the american society. Sounds a lot like the Bush doctrine to me. LOL
Also, regarding Hannity, I think his limited knowledge of many of the issues or the particular segments that they are talking about lead him to stay on one-track, as if that is the way to the truth.
I feel sorry for John McCain. He should have been in charge during the war, that I was never for.
Now I think he is kinda pasa this prime.
He really hasn’t been running on anything, until he started running the Obama campaign.
I guess that is why they want us to keep thinking this is an election about character
Well,
If anyone on the right would agree to go on Keith’s show on MSNBC, I think you’d see he is kinda like an
encyclopedia of knowledge.
He has devoured politics, like he did sports. He is a true info geek.
I just wish that Alan would do better followup questions, perhaps he isn’t allowed.
And I will give him credit, there have been times when he has been dead-on during certain segments but then they return and Hannity shoots down his argument, or else gets the last word.
I think that is the dynamic, you know, liberals are weak and cowering always to the strength of the right.
I just wonder why the time distribution is so out of whack.I have timed segments where Colmes gets three or four minutes and Hannity then takes over for up to eight minutes.
Also, Hannity jumps in whenever he wants. Such as with the lady tonight.
I know Fox is a right-leaning station and I have seen segments where guests microphones have been shut off, but I just wondered what the dynamics are on the Hannity and Colmes show are. Maybe the listing says it all.
Just wondering???
Bob, do you wish that Colmes would fight back more?!?!?
Do you think he is allowed to?
I saw tongiht where Hannity basically cut off the lady he was interviewing, of course, he had the last comment before he did!!!
Tina…..
You sound like the guys who said, “The only good indian is a dead indian.”
As for Churchill, I find it funny that you quote a man who had a thing for over-sized cigars and small dogs in his conservative years.
There you go, honest intelligent dialogue!!!!
