Isn’t it funny how two of the five governors sworn to oppose the Real ID act, making drivers licenses into defacto national ID cards have now resigned? They are Sarah Palin, and Mark Sanford. Now I realize that Sanford is a playboy, and Palin is about as smart as a doorknob, and neither are qualified to be actual leaders. Still, it does make one go “Hmmmmm….” Sort of like when Spitzer was forced from office right after he vowed to investigate Goldman Sachs.
The Constitution is a dead letter; an interesting historical anomaly. While it may have seemed like a good idea at the time it was completely ineffective for two reasons: The Bill of Rights contains no enforcement methodology. Second, interpretation of the Constitutionality of the laws of the land was left up to the Supreme Court, an august body of political hacks anointed by the President and confirmed by Congress. Does anyone honestly think that someone so chosen would stand up to excesses by the same body that gave them their cushy jobs? Is anyone really surprised that the experiment in limited government has resulted in the largest most expensive government in history?
You know, John Hancock and others of the Founding Fathers saw this coming, and stood four square against this foolishness called the Constitution. We should have listened to them.
There is absolutely NO DIFFERENCE between the two parties. Both have been bought and paid for by corporate interests a very long time ago, and not one member of Congress nor anyone in the executive branch is serving without the consent of the Establishment. Yes, this government should be disposed of. Yes, it is tyrannical. But guess what? Our government is so bankrupt, and so far gone into the last stages of corruption that it is not NECESSARY to have a revolution or even a recall. The US government will fall all by itself.
And here is where you can learn spelling and grammar: http://phoenix.edu Come on dude! Your comments would make a lot more sense if they were coherent.
The terms socialism, communism, fascism, and Nazism have so much emotional baggage attached to them, they are virtually worthless for precise discussion anymore. I prefer the word “tyranny” because it refers to oppressive rule by the government regardless of the political views of the government, the excuses it makes, or its alleged reasons behind its tyranny. Is this health care program tyranny? Yes, because it takes away money from people who earned it (taxes) it redistributes the money (gives it to people who have not earned it) and eliminates choices for those who don’t want to participate. And if you resist, the government will fine you, or lock you up, and kill you if you resist. It is bad policy, is immoral, and will fail.
This whole sordid thing just reaffirms my contention that most politicians are sociopaths who don’t care about the difference between right and wrong. The rest are fools who can’t figure it out. But it is rather funny to watch them hand-grenade from time to time.
It’s high time that the Church, especially the evangelical churches, the ones who sponsor Promise Keepers et al., renew the concept of “excommunication”. People who call themselves “Christians” then behave in utterly immoral fashion were once kicked out of fellowship until they repented (changed their ways) completely and made restitution for the wrongs they had done. Even if they had been restored to fellowship, they were rarely, if ever allowed back into church leadership. Now, all someone has to do is hold a press conference, shed some crocodile tears, and POOF! everything is forgiven just like nothing ever happened! No wonder those outside the church are increasingly disgusted with Church-ianity.
Wow. How did a post about Joe Jackson thinking MJ’s death was foul play turn into an argument between an evangelical and an atheist? I guess that just proves the contention of Lewis Black, that Micheal Jackson has become the punch line to every joke. “An atheist and an evangelical Christian walk into a bar… Micheal Jackson!”
Hmmm Government run health care. Maybe they will be just as efficient and error-free as the post office or the Department of Motor Vehicles, or the US Army procurement system? Actually, I am in favor of nationalizing health care for a few reasons: 1. It will bankrupt the government faster. 2. It will finally teach the big government lovers that government is a curse and not a blessing. 3.We might finally get rid of the war making, counterfeiting lying, degenerate monstrosity that is government.
Under a gov’t run health care system, the average guy will get crappy government run service, while the rich will still get decent health care from private providers, from off-shore practices, and from the black market–just like they did in the USSR, and in every other country that tried government run health care.
A few points: 1. The Bible says to treat the alien in your midst with kindness and respect. I hardly think making it difficult for them by passing foolish laws, then demonizing them as “illegals” is in keeping with this sentiment. 2. Most of the south west was stolen from these people to begin with in a war which General U.S. Grant (of Civil War fame. The guy on the $50)called a war of unjustified naked aggression. 3. How come the Bible thumpers are so eager to keep out the Mexicans from the USA when this was Mexican land 160 years ago, while the Jews, who lost their land 2000 years ago are perfectly free to immigrate to Israel? and last: Be careful when you wish for a closed border, because a border strong enough to keep “them” out, is strong enough to keep YOU from leaving.
There are two types of politicians in any democracy: Those who are too stupid to know the difference between right and wrong, and those who are too sociopathic to care. It is perfectly right to investigate either group, and is one of the few legitimate expenditures of public funds.
Bomb the University of Illinois? Best idea you have ever had Alan! I love your sense of humor, and agree with many of your opinions! By far you are the most open minded guy on talk radio these days, and tolerate dissent very well. Even though we don’t always agree, I will remain a loyal listener. (but you are beginning to try my patience with the Lovin Spoonful video. Gag!)
What a country. we let this pathetic excuse for a man be our President, and it resulted in the evil of an unprovoked war of aggression. I’ll bet anyone that Obama does NOTHING to punish any of this crew either. Our only hope is that W makes the mistake of traveling abroad, and is brought up on war crimes charges by another country’s government. One million Iraqis dead. 4 millions homeless because of this drone.
I have a great idea. Let’s round up all the environ-mental-cases, you know, the ones who know everything about global warming and industry without ever taking a physics or meteorology course in their lives, and pack them on soy-oil powered busses. We’ll send them to Oregon where they can live happily among the trees. Then the normal ones among us, the ones that understand how the world really works, can grant Oregon its independence. We’ll be able to take it back in 15 years when the greenies manage to kill themselves all off, or have reverted to hunter-gatherer status.
Hmmmm. $98K for a car that goes 220 miles on a recharge, yet takes five or six hours to recharge. Good selling points. Maybe it will suit the Yuppie/Boomer crowd who wants to pat themselves on the back and feel good about “saving the planet.” One question though? where does the electricity come from? OH YEAH! fossil fuel powered electrical plants.
Sarah said the Republican party is destroying religion. she is right. Religion, especially Christianity, should not be political. Instead, it should hold politicians to account. where was the “pro-life” right when we were bombing Iraqi civilians, and causing the untimely deaths of 1 million BORN human beings? Or does it not count that they were Arabs? (Might I point out that Jesus spoke Aramaic, the ancient precursor of modern Arabic? Might I also point out that Iraq has one of the OLDEST Christian populations in the world, dating back to the first century?) where were the Christians when we found out about the lies about Iraqi WMDS? The lies about Valerie Plame? The lies about Gitmo? I could go on forever, but I made my point. the church needs to divorce itself from the GOP.
Interesting how Spitzer was leading the charge to investigate Wall Street including GOLDMAN SACHS. Interesting how the hooker scandal began as an IRS investigation. Interesting how the IRS is a division of the US Treasury. Interesting how the head of the US Treasury is Henry Paulson. Interesting how Paulson used to be the head of GOLDMAN SACHS. I wonder… Nah… gotta be just an odd coincidence.
Alan, do you really think voting will help? I was thinking more along the lines of massive doses of Jack Daniel’s.
As for wanting to be a dictator, we already have a dictator. Look around you. The Pres and his men can invade any country he wants, jail anyone he wants, seize any amount of money he wants, print more money if that isn’t enough, take your kids and send them off to war, and kill you if you resist. We HAVE a dictatorship already. Its head is just (nominally) elected every 4 years.
Well, Katy, or is it Caty? Probably the worst Supreme court decision ever was McCally vs. Culkin which allowed obnoxiously cute kids to star in movies. But right up there was Kramer vs. Kramer which legalized stupid movies, and labeled them “chick flicks.” If that Supreme Court decision had never been made, none of us would have ever had to sit through a single John Cusack film.
Apparently, the Republicans are bored with an evil, war-mongering Vice President and a moron President, so this time, they are going to switch it up a bit and give us an evil war-mongering President and a moron Vice President. Meanwhile, the Democrats nominated a veteran party hack, and a relatively new member of the Chicago party machine, and labeled it “change!” HA HA HA! And they are complaining about the debate moderator? HA HA HA!I find it all too too funny! A debate between a hockey mom who can see Russia from her house, and a drunk who thinks TV was invented in 1929, giving the sainted FDR a platform from which to encourage the country about the economy after the stock market crash! Wow, you just cannot make this stuff up!
Beware of Section 8 which provides for zero government oversight? But Alan, why would that ever worry you? Hell, the CIA and the Department of Homeland Security have had those priviledges for years and only abused them a teeny tiny bit! Like, you know, embezzling a few millions here and there, running drugs out of foriegn countries and missles into others, overthrowing elected governments, small stuff like that.)Actually Alan, an abusive agency with zero oversight and access to tons of money is JUST what the doctor ordered for this country. Maybe it will take actually suffering under an open tyranny before Americans wake the heck up to their los of freedom and work to restore it.
