S: This kind of stuff has happened IN MY LIFETIME:
White only signs in my small southern town and the only jobs black people could get back then were jobs as janitors and maids.
K: My grandparents moved from IL to TN in 1973 and I was appalled at the sign on the county line warning blacks to be out by sundown.
S: And how many of your ancestors were slaves working the cotton fields?
K: None. How ’bout you? Point is that we don’t stamp out racism by only screaming about it from whites. Blacks can be just as racist and THAT form of racism need be stamped out just as vigorously. Until racism is seen for what it really is we will not come together in a blind society – which ought to be our goal.
S: Why do I even bother………….
K: Because you care. And you should. And so do I… ;-)
Any health care bill that makes it to Obama’s desk is expected to extend health insurance to the nearly 50 million who now lack it. That would mean a huge new pool of potential customers for drug companies and other health care providers. That, in turn, has created an incentive to offer concessions to the White House and lawmakers in hopes of shaping the bill, rather than simply opposing it.
Drugmakers were the first group to reach agreement with the White House and Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus, D-Mont., announcing several weeks ago that they would absorb $80 billion in costs over a decade.
Even before the announcement, according to several individuals, the White House sought help from PhRMA in passing legislation.
WASHINGTON (AP) — The nation’s drugmakers stand ready to spend $150 million to help President Barack Obama overhaul health care this fall, according to numerous officials, a staggering sum that could dwarf attempts to derail Obama’s top domestic priority.
The White House and allies in Congress are well aware of the effort by Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America, a somewhat surprising political alliance, given the drug industry’s recent history of siding with Republicans and the Democrats’ disdain for special interests.
Kar said: Their profits will get hit, so they’re happy to offer BO help.
K: Yup, to the tune of about $80,000,000,000 over the next few years. Point is, the purists on this board have conniption fits over “Big Pharma” and here “Big Pharma” is writing their health insurance law! That hasn’t stopped The Eric, though, as he continues to rail against them while ignoring the fact that they are in bed with his man Barry.
Sarah said: Oh, I see. You want a government handout before you secede to Utah.
K: No, I want a return of the moneys I have paid IN. I’m beginning to see what it takes to be a Lib, though… ;-)
S: Nope, sorry. You can’t take it with you. You lived in this country, it stays in this country. You’re free to pay no taxes in Utah, though. Have fun in your Republican commune!
K: Ain’t goin’ unless I get my money back. You’all haven’t spent it all, have you?
SGL said: What’s it gonna take for you Kregg? The letter with THE “N” word isn’t proof enough for you?
K: I didn’t say that there have not been racist reactions to this president. I DO believe such reactions are overblown in their prevalence. Racism is an equal opportunity disease, SGL. Screaming and shouting and falling down with the shivers every time it rears it’s ugly head will only exacerbate the problem rather than cure it. It is positively stupid to acknowledge it only when ONE race does it – ignoring that ALL races have their racists. Why does no one think it important to point out black racism, or hispanic racism, or any other kind of racism – if racism itself is so bad? Racism of ALL kinds is wrong so lets stamp out EVERY incident of it with equal enthusiasm – and NOT just those that are justified as politically correct .
The Eric said: Which is more or less just a bought off pile of nonsense that only serves to line the pockets of mega-rich insurance company exes and don’t do a damn thing for people on the streets.
K ; Uh, Eric, its the ‘mega-rich insurance companies’ that are helping BO write healthcare policy. Whatcha’ think of that?
Sarah said: Seriously, I don’t know what check you’re talking about. I didn’t read all your blather.
K: Your acknowledged acceptance of my acquiescence with your plan without actually reading it seems a Lib trait – just as ya’ll are doing with the healthcare bill.
K: I want a check for my SS contributions, my Medicare contributions, and the cost of privately educating my kids. THEN I’ll move to Utah.
Sarah said: Kregg, if it makes you feel any better, I’d gladly kick all tea baggers off of Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, and out of our school systems, I have that much compassion for you.
K: How you going to find all those teabaggers? What people do in their bedrooms is supposed to be sacrosanct – why would you alienate them over a sexual hobby?
K: As to the rest of us who are conservative but prefer more conventional sex, if you’ll give me all the money I”ve paid IN to social security botha as an employer AND as an employee and Medicare I’ll be GLAD to leave the system. Since I’ve already educated my kids without burden to the public school system I’d like a refund for all money I”ve saved it, also. With these things I’d be glad to comply. When can I expect my check?
S: And I’d love to make sure every Republican never has to pay another dime in taxes, as long as they’re corralled in, say, Utah– IF they purchase enough land for themselves with all of their pooled funds.
K: What will you do for tax revenue if the Republicans stop paying? You’d better check with your poor Dem friends who are now avoiding the paying of income taxes. And, I’m sure that if all the Republican money in the nation was pooled we’d be able to buy more than Utah – as we already own most of it.
S: Then, they can figure out how to educate their children (or not),
K: Already have, thank you.
S: and get around (or not),
K: Won’t need to, we’ll have everything we need within walking distance…
S: defend themselves (or not),
K: You’ve GOT to be kidding, right? ;-)
S: bank, shop, eat, sleep, drink and breathe, etc.
K: We own all the banks and wallstreet to hear your cronies tell it, we also own all the big ’shopping’, big farmers are accused of being ‘corporate conglomerates’ and ‘rich’ and therefore Republican so we ought to eat ok, sleeping and breathing are still free (haven’t seen the whole UHC plan though so will reserve judgment on this proposition)
K; Given that you’ve accused us of owning all the corporate means of production, land, retail, and everything else I’ll ask you this question: Where will all the proletariat eat, shop, receive medical and banking services, etc? Oh, and where will you ‘work’ or receive the tax revenue to medically or defensively care for yourselves?
K: I agree… BO will hardly be ACTUALLY holding a ‘townhall’ meeting, the concept of which is open and free discussion by all in attendance. Thank you for agreeing on this point… ;-)
CW, McCain would have been better than BO but I don’t think he was the best for the country either. However, this country traditionally hands off leadership every 8 years so I think a number of qualified candidates simply sat this election cycle out.
Thank your for your concerns regarding my business. I have found on this board a lot of compassion for ‘others’ at someone else’s expense but little concern for the unintended consequences that such ‘compassion’ brings about.
