I have zero respect for anyone who does not give our military what they ask for. The men and women in uniform pay the ultimate price.
I completely agree with that sentiment. Give them what they need, or get them out. Leaving soldiers in the battlefield without the tools to accomplish the mission given is unacceptable.
And several administrations have been guilty of this, including Bush and the current administration – neither is OK with me.
Fred Thompson said our President doesn’t have the heart to win the war. BIG difference between what Fred Thompson said and What Reid said.
I guess Reid and Thompson may have had different reasoning for why the ‘war is already lost’, but I’m not sure how splitting those particular hairs are any more comforting to the men and women in the field.
I’ll ask my nephew (marine) and niece (army) whether those types of nuances are important to those in the field who are told by important national figures that the war they see their friends dying in is already lost or not.
We are already IN Afghanistan, the troops NEED support…
I’m with you, Bliss – Fred Thomson shouldn’t be publicly saying the war is ‘lost’ while we still have our guys and gals in the field. He should be working behind the scenes to bring our soldiers home if that is his view.
Every working scientist in the world would absolutely agree with you – otherwise, they’d be out of a job!
God did not intend for us to understand everything.
Could be! Science doesn’t have anything to say about the supernatural.
He gave them the knowledge.
Scientific investigation in the quest for knowledge is hard work, nobody ‘gives’ anyone knowledge.
I don’t know what line of work you are in, but (for example) let’s say you are a mechanic. When you rebuild a 454 big block is it you who did it or some supernatural being doing it for you?
My understanding is the correct protocol is to raise your hands up in the air, making a ‘claw’ gesture, then walk around stiff legged yelling:
‘Godzirra!!! Godzirra!!!’
Then toss your biz card at them, grab their biz card one handed, pull out your pen to write on the back of his card, and ask your Japanese business associate where’s the best place to see some of them hot Geesha girlies.
Soesahead, you don’t understand the function of bowing in Japanese culture. It’s a greeting, like shaking hands. You seem to think it’s some form of gesture of subservience.
The depth of the bow one gives compared to the depth of the bow of the other party has specific meaning, Jasper.
A proper greeting would have been a head nod (with now handshake), and if the Emperor also wanted to be culturally sensitive, he could have offered his hand to Obama for a shake.
Basically Obama screwed this greeting up pretty much every way you look at it.
Again, not the hugest deal in the world, but let’s face it – Obama acted like a goofball.
Except that a full waist bow is not proper greeting when you are the President of the United States of America.
I agree, as I stated in the other thread – the purpose of etiquette is so everyone knows the rules in social situations to avoid awkward moments so that everyone feels comfortable. This was an awkward moment, I don’t think it really showed weakness, it just made Obama look like a doofus.
Certainly not something to make a huge deal about, but really – this is the second time he committed the same exact error.
Attention Obama’s handlers: Please brief the president on how to be presidential. Thank you.
It was a slight bow though, just nodding his head which is normal.
Not in my view – to me it looked like the emperor was looking at Obama trying to figure out why the President of the United States was doing calisthenics instead of saying howdy.
Look, as an expat, one of my criteria for choosing a president was having one who had some inkling of the fact that relations with other countries are important, and Obama does. Further, it wasn’t the worse faux pas he could have made, W. might have challenged the emperor to arm wrestle or something.
But manners and etiquette are a known/agreed set of rules so nobody feels uncomfortable – and I think he made the emperor uncomfortable.
the saudi king thing was ridiculous on Obamas part…this is ridiculous on the idiots complaining about this.
I’d say it they were both foolish acts on Obama’s part. Had the emperor bowed to Obama, Obama could/should have bowed back.
Had I been visiting the emperor as I private citizen, I would have bowed in the manner Obama did in the video. Were I visiting the emperor as President of the United States, I would have only bowed to the same degree the Emperor did.
Democrat party. Democrat party. A party filled with liberals
What country are you talking about? Neither of the two big parties in the US have very many liberals in them (nor is either called the Democrat party).
Have you gone global on us, Willy – or is this some tiny fringe party that I haven’t heard of?
It would be pretty cool to have a major political party filled with liberals, heck – by the time that happened we might even manage to get a liberal in the white house.
Note the emotional appeal used to distract from logical, reasoned argument based on fact and American traditional values of justice…..
True, and as most people know, it is a common trait amongst many conservatives to base their ideas and decisions on their ‘feelings’ and desires rather than logic, fact, or values.
Piffle apparently ‘feels’ vengeance and has the desire to kill another human being, and these feelings of his apparently have left him blind to what was actually being discussed.
I can’t believe you people can’t get this, you’ll sacrifice any number of innocent people because confirmed monsters are just some naive do-gooders idea of a soul in need of salvation.
I get that you are blood thirsty and vengeful, I really do – but what I don’t ‘get’ is where I said or implied that I would ’sacrifice innocent people’ – could you please explain where that came up in my post?

Government-Sponsored Killing Ends Life Of DC Sniper
November 11th, 2009 at 9:08 amCivilized countries do not kill people who do not represent a threat.
He should have been held in prison for life, in humane conditions, because of who WE are – not because of what HE was.
Unlike the killings he committed, for which he is responsible for – all Americans are complicit in the killing of John Allen Muhammad.

Woo hoo!

November 9th, 2009 at 4:51 pmI’m all in favor of additional political parties – and a party that splinters off the kookier elements of the Republican party is great!
Maybe without he burden of appeasing the teabaggers, the Republican party can actually become a serious party again.
