The whole event was irresponsibly twisted by Barack Obama. This was not a situation that a president should butt into. Through his statements, not knowing the facts, he managed to “f” the cops, defend the intelligentsia elite, and race bait. Good grief. Where’s that guy who campaigned last year?
Sarah is a breath of fresh air, not the typical woman we are used to in national politics. She is beautiful; she lives, not just mouths, pro-life; she is a believing Christian; she does not kowtow to the elitist liberal intelligentsia. She may not have the fancy education of some of our self-important leaders, but she is intelligent enough to understand that America is unique and great because it has been built on individual freedom, not central government collective caretaking. Go Sarah!
The truth is that we were on the right side. (Also, we won every major military battle, as the North Vietnamese generals all acknowledged. We defeated ourselves through the political outcries here in the U.S., which is what they had counted on.) But, it’s all history now. I think Goldwater would have understood all of it better than Johnson ever did.
“We of the Kennedy and Johnson administrations…”. Doesn’t this mean that the responsibility lies with the top dude, not with McNamara? Ah, these government expanding, liberal adminsitrations, led by presidents who care so much for the “little people”.
I haven’t had cable tv in a few years, but I remember Maher as a bitter fellow who made snide and sarcastic remarks all the time. He is not a reasonable, rational commentator, he is a guy with a tv show. Anyone who believes that the Democrats are a “center right party” can not be taken seriously.
No mother can tolerate comments like this, whether her daughter is 14 or 18. Neither Hillary nor Laura nor my Mother would tolerate it. Good for Sarah for fighting back. Her daughter is watching. (I hope SNL will be next.)
OldLefty; I don’t think so. The mainstream press obviusly have not made the Islamic convert who murdered the soldier at the military recruitment office into the media character that they have made of the men who murdered the abortion doctor in the church and the guard in the Holocaust museum. Of course, they mention him, they must, but they go no further. Why?
As far as J. Wright is concerned, we would know virtually nothing about his angry opinions if it were not for what you lefties call the mean right-wing radio hosts. The mainstream press was forced into reporting a little about him simply because everyone was already aware of him. There is no disgust from the mainsteam press about Wright’s comments from earlier this week. These are the type of comments that were an integral part of Obama’s world for two decades. Again, why?
Does anyone seriously doubt the bias of these mainstream press people anymore?
This twisted, hateful philosophy is hideous, no matter who spouts it. What is interesting is that the press is eager to make grotesque media stars out of men like these two, as well as the one who murdered the abortion doctor. (I don’t even want to write their names.) The same press is silent about the Islamic convert who murdered the soldier at the recruitment office, silent about the alarming words that Obama’s spiritual mentor and father-substitue, J. Wright uttered just three days ago.
This guy has done something evil. He is neither left nor right, he is nuts.
Ace, you made a brilliant point – both communism and fascism are on the left, as are all forms of socialism and theocracy. The founding philosophy of this nation, which acknowledges that the the INDIVIDUAL has inalienable rights is the opposite of that. This is something that the left can not and will not deal with.
Individual Republicans concur in greatly varying degrees with all of the aforementioned. “Moderate” Republicans and Democrats need a spokesman, because they have no political identity outside of a group. Conservatives have the ability to speak for themselves.
As a conservative, I think it is a win if “moderates” like Specter, Snow, etc. leave the Republican party. It would give the Republicans the chance to be a true party of stated beliefs. They don’t have to be a majority party to be a powerful political force. Specter, Snow, etc. can take their “moderation” to the Democrats; they will be the brakes to some of the far-left Obama-type desires in that party. Moderates are like mashed potatoes, everybody likes mashed potatoes, but what do they stand for?
Such a divergence of opinion about whether waterboarding, done in the controlled CIA manner, is torture, is proof that this was not and is not an easy call. No one should be prosecuted over something that at the time was in such a legally grey area.
Meghan McCain is very cute. That coupled with the fact that she is John McCain’s daughter is the only reason anyone pays attention to her. Neither Barbara nor Jena Bush, nor Chelsea Clinton ever displayed this need to be on tv. Maybe the three of them just had more sense. Meghan seems to be a nice young woman. I hope this will pass.
Eric G. and Rocky: The failure to distinguish between a believed enemy combatant in war and a civilian family member believed to be doing something illegal is mind-boggling. It’s like saying if I supported dropping bombs on Germany during WWII, then I wouldn’t mind the police doing that to my relative’s house. The logic gap is overwhelming and unbridgeable.
Lee: if you don’t embrace socialism, then you are not a lefty. You are a liberal. Barry is not a liberal, he is a lefty.
If you are interested in policy direction, read what Barry said before he became a pop culture icon, before the hope/change/hope/change/hope/change presidential campaign. This man is an internationalist. This man believes that our Founding Fathers erred when they only wrote about limits of the powers of the federal government in the Constitution. He would have done better, he would have written a document which stated the responsibilities of the federal government to take care of the citizens. Again, find out how he talked before he became so famous. He makes me feel comfortable with Bill Clinton.
Liz speaks more honestly than Speakerette Nancy Pelosi. Nan knew, no, did not know. Nan agreed, no, did not agree. Nan was fully informed, no, was not fully informed. Nan said it was necessary, no, did not say it was necessary. I personally do not consider the CIA form of waterboarding to be torture, and none of the informed congress creatures spoke up at the time.
Placefield: I understand the point you are making. However, look at the name, it is the Union of Soviet SOCIALIST Republics. They knew what they were. Hugo Chavez refers to himself as a SOCIALIST, Fidel Castro referred to himself as a SOCIALIST (in the days when he could speak).
Oh, that we could all be Scandinavians – and rely on that other country, the United States of America, to be our military might and protector against fascism, communism, and terrorism. Bless those Americans; their strength means the Scandinavians (and fellow Europeans) don’t have to spend much on their own military. They love to laugh at those Americans, but most also understand what they owe the U.S.A.
Why is referring to Barry as a socialist considered name-calling? Socialism is proudly embraced by you lefties. You know Barry is not a liberal Democrat – he is way, way beyond that. Be proud of what you are; embrace the success of Hugo Chavez, Fidel Castro, and of course, the glory days of the old Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. Let the state take care of and own you. Embrace total dependency with a smile.
Well, I think Germany was acknowledging the inevitable. FDR was right, but men like him are certainly nowhere to be found in the current administration. I think you are still suffering from Bush Derangement Syndrome; but I’m starting to feel the same way about the man-child, Barry. So, I guess I can’t criticize.
