• Alan anticipates the political fallout of naming Eric Holder to be Attorney General.
Alan Keyes is now behind an effort to deny Barack Obama California’s electoral votes. On what basis, you ask?
The one-time presidential candidate who stopped by Illinois to challenge Obama for a senate seat in 2004 when the Republican Party couldn’t find anyone who actually lived in the state to run, believes documentary evidence is required to prove that President-elect Obama is a natural-born citizen.
Michael Isikoff at Newsweek is reporting that Eric Holder will be nominated by Barack Obama to be the next attorney general of the United States. Holder, who was Deputy Attorney General under Clinton, would be the first African-American in that position.
Expect conservatives to raise a stink because of Clinton’s pardon of Mark Rich.
Although there is no evidence that Holder actively pushed the pardon, he was criticized for not raising with the White House the strong objections that some Justice Department lawyers and federal prosecutors in New York had to pardoning somebody who had fled the country. But after reviewing the evidence in the case, and checking with staffers on the Senate Judiciary Committee, Obama aides and Holder both decided the issue was highly unlikely to prove an obstacle to his confirmation, one of the sources said–especially given the Democrats’ more sizable post-election majority in the Senate.
Pastor Mark Holick of the Spirit One Christian Center in Wichita says it won’t remove its message, in spite the fact that Obama is a Christian, not a Muslim.
On its web page, it claims it is a “friendly, friendly church.” Is that why there was a shouting match outside the church this past Sunday between Obama supporters and church members?
Lord Bingham of Cornwall (l), who just stepped down as senior British law lord, says the invasion of Iraq, the redefinition of torture, and the detention conditions at Guantanamo, meant that action by the UK and the US was “a serious violation of international law.”
While a written statement by then-attorney general Lord Goldsmith claimed the war was legal on the ground of existing UN resolutions, Lord Bingham says that thinking is flawed.
“It was not plain that Iraq had failed to comply in a manner justifying resort to force and there were no strong factual grounds or hard evidence to show that it had.
“Hans Blix and his team of weapons inspectors had found no weapons of mass destruction, were making progress and expected to complete their task in a matter of months.”
Lord Bingham also criticised Lord Goldsmith for failing to make clear that only the UN Security Council could judge whether there had been compliance and, if appropriate, authorise further action.
“Bill Clinton made more than $10 million when he signed his deal in 2001 and that was the most for a former president,” says the source. “Sarah brings something different to the table - there is so much curiosity surrounding her and her life. If they move fast and get this thing on shelves, then a $7 million advance could be worth it.”
I don’t know about you, but I don’t have any such curiosity.
The Pew Research Center for the People and the Press did a survey on the favorite and least favorite “campaign journalists”. I’m proud to announce that I’m among the Republicans’ bottom five.
Thank you, Republicans, for this cherished honor. You’ve made me proud of myself.
Arnold Schwarzenegger admits that what America wants and needs is not what the Republican Party is offering. h/t Crooks and liars. On “This Week” he spoke like an American, not just a Republican.
Remember that so many times there’s dialogue about, you know, we have to go back to our core values. What is that? What is core? How far does core go back in history in America, the word core? Does it go back 30 years? Does it go back 50 years? Because we know that Teddy Roosevelt talked about universal health care. So they’re off the core for a long time ago already. He has talked about protecting our environment. So they’ve been off for a long time on that. I mean, let’s be honest. Ronald Reagan — let’s go to Eisenhower, for instance. Eisenhower has built the highway system in America and he’s poured billions of dollars into infrastructure. Where Republicans today say, well, that’s spending. We shouldn’t spend. That’s not spending. That’s investing in the future of America.
We know that Obama is a crackberry addict who is into texting and twittering. George W. Bush was a frequent e-mailer who had to give that up when he became president. But that was before Blackberrys and texting became such prominent parts of our existence. Obama’s already had to give up smoking. How much more can one be expected to sacrifice?
